O'Death

These guys are friends of mine, and I can't believe how big they've gotten. Friggin' label deal, articles in the Village Voice, Spin, etc, tours all over the world. I used to watch them play in their dorm's living room at their college.

Anyone heard of them? The best way to describe it- Death Country. It's amazing stuff, and I'm glad these guys are getting huge, even if I'm a little distressed that the hipsters seem to be huge into them.

myspace.com/odeath if you haven't. Down to Rest is my favorite song on there.

That's pretty fun stuff, Alex. Sounds like they would be a great band live.

Yeah, it's great.

The drummer Dave used to manage a bar called The Apocalypse Lounge in the LES and they used to play there all the time. He hooked me up with a job working the door when I was out of work for a few months. Good people.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Alex Riviello again.
O.k. where can I buy? Death Country, FUCKING AWESOME!

Yeah, that's pretty cool stuff, and I can totally see why the hipsters would dig it (hipsters set out to ruin everything good, though). I'll check them out more, though I don't know if I can make their show in DC next week; too bad they're not playing Baltimore.

Thanks for the tip!

Good shit Alex, they sound great. I've been getting into this type of music lately, though it's only been Hank III & The Damn Band and Joe Buck Yourself, it's nice I've come across another band. If they ever come around to Cleveland I'll be sure to check them out.

Ain't that the truth? I went to a show of theirs in Williamsburg once (it's basically the hipster Mecca) and had them bopping all around me. I saw red and had to stop myself from pretending I was at a hardcore show.

Bub- funny, III was how I found out that there's good, diverse country out there.

Jeez, man, I'm not being enough of a shill here?

Heh... I had no idea, but I see there's a link on their myspace page to grab the cd or just tracks. Head Home's a great album. Here's some more good free stuff.
I actually looked on eBay, and there are a couple of copies of Head Home on there. So there you go.

Neat... definitely reminds me of Hank III. (I have only listened to the Youtube video so far)

People who like this MIGHT also dig 16 Horsepower and Woven Hand, though those bands (same singer) produce slower stuff than this... it is still somewhat heavy, and EVIL-sounding.

I think you should give Joe Buck Yourself a listen, he's IIIs bass player and a one man band.

I'm gonna be a fucking shill and throw out another band, in the good country music grouping that I just came across. The Poor Bastards.

Atlantans, these guys play the EARL on Sunday. Maybe I'll check it out if nothing else is going on. Anyone else?

My boys just got a (really, really overwritten but very positive) interview on Suicide Girls yesterday.

I did an hour shift on the college station in Athens a couple of weeks ago for a charity fundraiser, and when I saw the O'Death album on the new stuff rack, I couldn't resist. I spun a track, and talked them up for a few seconds. Everyone in the booth (all three of us, that is) thought it was great!

Glad to hear they're doing well after your friend's tragedy.

New site- and the new album "Broken Hymns, Limbs And Skin" hits in a month, although it's already out in Europe.

It's pretty dark, but I wouldn't expect anything else after what we all went through. There's one track from it up here.

I was kicking myself for not checking them out when they came through Cleveland.

"Lowtide" is pretty fucking good.

I can't believe this slipped my mind, but I finally saw these guys last Thursday. They put on a damn good show, I had myself a beer and BS'd with them after the show for a while, very cool guys. And as if I needed another reason to like them, they are fans of Basket Case, that automatically makes them cool my book.

I came across some videos of the show, here's one of them.

I also dug the opening band Elliott Brood quite a bit, here's a video of their first song.

For any locals, they're playing the EARL here in Atlanta tonight. I'd really like to catch the show, but I feel like crap today, so I may skip. We shall see.

They appear to have a trio of cute girls as an opening act, according to the Loaf.

My boys are over in Europe now, and just recorded a Ukelele Session... O'DEATH. http://blogs.lesoir.be/festivals/200...ession-odeath/

Cool, I really can't wait to see them live again, hopefully they'll be hitting up my area some time soon.

Man, what's with the hipster rage? Every music club I've ever been to has -some- collection of people, and if I'm gonna get stuck surrounded by some group I'd take dudes in skinny jeans drinking PBR ironically over orange-skinned guidos in Ed Hardy or frat brahs in backwards baseball caps eyeballing my wife whenever I take a piss. I've never almost got the shit kicked about of me by a group of six hipsters wearing apparel from T-shirt Hell, but I have by a bunch of guys with line beards and pearly white sneakers.

Well played.

Oh, and excellent music, btw.

Seriously though, I've never been to a show that has those kind of kids and I'm kind of concerned that you have been. A club, maybe, but a rock show?

Quest was bad for the oompa-loompas and linebeards before it shit the bed, and I kind of expect to see a lot of them at First Ave end of the month for Bloc Party. It all depends on the show in Minneapolis.
