Too bad . . . I was a big fan of their coverage and reviews. It would have been nice if they'd expanded into HD-DVD and Blu-Ray coverage, but they seem to be moving on.

Yeah, Nordling told me about it.

It's kind of sad that they just threw in the towel like that. They were still doing decent work.

Another one bites the dust
joining the ranks of great sites such as corona COMING ATTRACTIONS

anyone else remember that site?

Aw, shit!

They easily had the best written reviews of all the dvd sites out there. But I think their focus on old classics and underground indies, while great for me, kept a lot of eyes off their site. Further, they mostly reviewed the actual content, and would barely give a mention to the A/V presentation or the extras on a disc. Still, they were a shining beacon, and without them, the intertubes are now a bit more dull.

Like to hear what Beaks, former DVD Journal contributor, has to say about the passing.

It really is staggering because it was truly an essential site/stop/read. Aside from the informative DVD reviews, thoroughly entertaining analysis between contributors regarding filmmakers and their specific processes, it also was clearly a labor of love of people who truly got movies they way they were meant to be received. This is a lot more than you can say for some people out there...

Let's also hope DVDBeaver doesn't bite the dust anytime soon. Rosenbaum's contributions have been exemplary. I also wish that Robert Harris would post more on thedigitalbits, but assuming he's ridiculously busy saving the studio's ever-fading follies I guess that's the price that's paid.

In all of this, here's hoping Andre and Beaks bring the journal thunder over here. Is that too much to ask?
