I think the fact that there will be a new writer/director is an indication that they really dont need to do a sequel to the descent. i really liked the first one, but im not really clamoring for another one.
So will it involve a military unit being sent into the cave?

Naw, biker gangs.

Coincidentally, the sequel to The Descent (by Jeff Long), Deeper, came out last week.

Long would really have grounds for a suit then - or at least, get really pissed off.

This would be the only reason to do a sequel. I'm certainly not looking forward to any returning characters.

EDIT: For the record, I liked The Descent a lot. But I'm still sore about the last death. She was awesome, and should have lived.

It would be funny and sad if there's a Descent 2 before Dog Soldiers 2.
Why? Dog Soldiers was not very good.
I hope Bruce Campbell can get this one cancelled too.

They need to send the Hip Hop Kids in there.

"That's a stalagtite, Jo-Jessica! You gotta recognize yo sedimentary rock formations! Yo, on the real real real real, on the gettin' worse front I think we got some company in the form of CAVE CREATURES."

"Yo, I think they've evolved to see movement and not individual shapes, so I think dancin' could be the worst possible call right now, yo."

"Uh, UH, how you like those moves, cave creatures? Double up on ya...you gettin' SERVED, cave creatures!....[screaming] Ah! No, I'm gettin' served!"

"They got ATE, and that's all they is."

I would be open to them using the approach of having the entire length of the Descent #1 essentially being the pre-title sequence tease of an X-Files movie. Send Mulder and Scully into the cave I say.

A million and one says it'll be a geological survey team.
It'll be a rescue team, and the "big twist" will be that Sarah's become a cave creature.
Not Sarah, Juno.
She will lead an army of pick-axe wielding mutants to the surface unless the team can stop them!
As much as I loved the first one (and I did love it, don't care what anybody says), I'm not at all interested in a sequel.

Why? Aliens and Hills Have Eyes 2 (as far as taking part 2 up to the next level) did it as well. Not to mention all the other horror flicks that have used the miltary as fodder. Very generic (and obvious) direction to go in. IF there is to be a sequel, I'd rather there be a deeper exploration and find some really monstrous shit down there (ala a remake of At the Earth's Core). Doug McClure's gotta have a free schedule.

They just need to remove the 's' from the title, then they'll make bank.

...Moderate bank.

Wait, wasn't Sarah the woman who stayed in the cave at the end of the UK cut?

I guess that would necessitate two different cuts of the sequel with my idea.

It's an obvious direction to go in since someone's already written it.

Is the movie related to the book at all? Other than having the same title and being in a cave? Loved the book. Haven't seen the movie yet.
