Enough of this bullshit coverage already!

See but she reminds us of the things we've all lost. Wealth. Power. A functioning series of internal organs.

I remember when that dumb lady died. It was at about the same time "Goldeneye" came out for the N64. God that was a sick game.

Hey, Princess Diana died so Helen Mirren could win an Oscar! Show some fucking respect!

Let's mourn the death of a worthless woman, born and bred in the lap of luxury, whose only goal in life was to give birth to the heir to the throne. Her contributions to society will be greatly missed. Even Greek TV got in on the act. Who the fuck cares?
There was nothing wrong with her, and she was a good person. It's just that the media coverage would lead you to believe that we lost the only person who was capable of curing AIDS. Besides, she's hogging coverage that could be spent focusing on Ms. South Carolina.

And by "close" I mean close like funny and Rob Schneider goes together.

What upsets me is that everyone is mourning the 10 year anniversary of Princess Di's death, yet hardly anyone is mourning the 10 year anniversary of the death of the producer of F/X.

"Murder by Illusion!"

Is the world THAT boring that we continue to pour attention to this lady's faux-"sad fairy tale" life?

C'mon!

Didn't Mother Teresa also die around the same time? What about the memorials for her?
Anyone ever notice she was a dead ringer for Wayne Gretzky?

For that matter, anyone ever notice k.d. land and Mario Lemieux were the same dude?

Mother T. wasn't HOT. Tight? Probably. But not hot.

God stretched her out real good.

Truly rare celebrity traits, but...

Di did do a lot of work for the anti-landmine movement, which was a refreshing change of pace from all those pro-landmine princesses.

Are you insinuating that Die (I'm totally using the name from now on) was hot? Maybe compared to that abomination she married.
I went to see Hoodlum the night Princess Di bit it. Man, Chi McBride is one fine actor.

Yeah, that troika from the mushroom kingdom consisting of Daisy, Peach and Toadstool (Yeah it's possible that Toadstool and Peach are the same but I'm not getting into it) lobbied hard for landmines. Of course they had to deal with a Koopa problem the brits never had to contend with.
That's very funny Ed, but I have to say that in the 10 years since Di's death neither myself or anyone I know has stepped on a landmine. A few close calls? Sure, absolutely. But overall it's not something I worry about much anymore.
I always thought it would be scrumptiously ironic if prince Harry went to Iraq and ended up stepping on a mine. It would be like "revenge of the mines", or something.

Actually, there are a ton of old land mines that are spread around countries that have had wars take place on them AFTER the invention of land mines. So it actually is a real issue that threatens citizens in areas that are trying to rebuild after wars have completely screwed up everything.

That said, I'd rather they just do a story about land mines and the danger they pose in remembrance rather than bring up this tired, lowest-common-denominator sentimental BS.

ETA: Not that I don't find jokes like Minsky's hilarious.

You too?

I couldn't get into see "The Crow: City of Angels". It is a small world after all.

How can we even think about still mourning Princess Di when Owen Wilson's mental state is still in question? Let's get some fucking perspective here.

I'm well aware that landmines are a serious issue in many parts of the world. I just don't think Princess Di should get the lion's share of the credit when it comes to doing something about those dirty, dirty landmines. I think credit should go to the brave souls who are down in the trenches trying to disarm landmines that are still in the ground, landmines that are just waiting to spoil an Easter egg hunt.

I ask, where are the parades for this man?

What did this guy ever do to Diana?

Evidently she was a Decepticon.
Did Di have her own video game? I think not.

I don't get why everyone keeps putting down Princess Di when she was never a bad person, or a bitch. Everyone is just annoyed because of all the press coverage. The newspeople have nothing better to do. Relax.

I for one am going to pull a fabfunk tonight and look up some old topless pics of Princess Di and totally wank to them in her royal honor.

I was kidding...but for some reason for typing that I think I'm going to hell.

Does anyone remember that Diana tribute CD that came out years ago?
I first learned of Princess Die's death at a bachelor party where we were watching, I shit you not, yakuza porn. I mean, it had to be. A fat gangster yakuza banging this Japanese chick who was obviously drugged. I had no idea what it was until we put it in, listening to this guy screaming over this knocked-out woman, and then bam, Diana was dead.

Didn't that came out in 1996?
If my overly trivia filled mind serves me correctly. City of Angeles did come out in '96. I remember because during that summer I went to the movies constantly and kept seeing that one trailer over and over again.

I remember watching the funeral on a Saturday morning. But, dammit, I just wanted my shitty cartoons.
I remember I was spending the night over at a friend's house. We were watching Kelly's Heroes on TV. Don Rickles whacky antics were interrupted by the coverage.

Fucking bitch.

I don't remember. I thought I saw "The Crow" then, but it could've been something else. All I remember was trying to see "Hoodlum" for a week before I gave up.

Then, it was one of the first DVD I ever saw and I wasn't impressed.

Still, we're about to forget the most important part to this entire discussion. Fuck Princess Di, we should all remember where we were when Chi McBride first came into our lives.

I was neg-repped for this so I thought I should repeat it.

1997: I'd never seen such an outpouring of guilt by a nation in my life. It was quite disgusting. Even today its not admitted, but maybe future history books will explain how peoples hunger for shitty gossip and candid photos caused her death, and on her funeral parade the nation inexplicably gave a shit for a person they collectively killed, but were too cowardly or too stupid to realise the reason why they were making such a spectacle of her funeral was because they were guilty and ashamed. Now they worship her and the royals like the pagan wicker man burning fuckers that they are.

Well I cried buckets of tears when she died. I stayed by the tv for hours at a time listening to all the grim details. I can't explain why her death meant something to me at that time. I only know that on her 10 -year death anniversary i don't care. Time does reshape your priorities.

I mean, I felt awful when she died - I didn't cry or anything. But I did feel terrible about it. But like you, 10 years later, it's time that folks let it drop.

I'll tell you one really selfish thing that immediately ran through my mind when she died. Around March of that year, I had left ABC Television, where I was the admin to one of the VPs in the news licensing department. Disney "uncreated" many of our jobs, so I'd been at my new job for about five months. And one of things I learned at ABC was that the news department has an obituary reel ready to roll for anyone who is old or sick so that they can get the jump on broadcasting it. For example, we had one ready to go for George Burns for the entire three years that I worked there - and one for Mother Theresa too, ironically enough, as that turned out that same week. I know it sound ghoulish, and I'm sure that all other news agencies do the same thing, but till I worked there, that was the first I'd heard about it. But the general rule of thumb was - they had to be elderly, sick, and at death's door for quite some time for us to have an obituary reel readty to pop in at a moment's notice.

And then - the world's most famous woman dies unexpectedly at age 36 in a horrible accident, and no one saw it coming. Not only that - but on a holiday weekend when the news department wouldn't be fully staffed. I mean, yes, they gave it full coverage like all the other channels did, but I'm betting it was with a panicky as hell skeleton crew.

I was watching the coverage on CNN with my then-boyfriend, and I turned to him, and said, "Wow... this is one of those times I'm really glad I'm not working at ABC anymore. They must be flipping the hell out up in the news department."

I remember that night quite well. I sat down to watch Saturday Night Live for the first time, because my friends were always talking about, and I wanted to be cool. I just assumed the "breaking news" was a spoof, though after about 20 minutes it wasn't that funny.

So how could you tell it apart from SNL?
