Doctor Who, S4 - Page 10

Looks too young and fangirl-baiting for my tastes, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. For now.

I can't say much because the guy is a year older than me. We'll have to see. I admit the haircut did make me laugh a bit. Of course anyone who has seen my Xbox avatar. Well.....

I was just about to read over the Wikipedia profile when I discover this guy is exactly one year older than me. He and I have the same birthday.

Sweet Zombie Jesus!

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I was kind of hoping to see them go a little more seasoned this time. We'll see how it goes, I suppose.

I have the same reservations, but so far I've learned not to doubt Steven Moffat...if he saw something perfect for the part in Smith, I'll take it.

Though for about twelve hours I was almost convinced it was Paterson Joseph, and was getting excited about that possibility.

Sorta agree but not surprised really. I always fancasted Nighy because I'd love to see The Doctor return to the William Hartnell cranky ass old man kind of thing, but that might play as House in Space these days. Moffat has always written The Doctor as possessing qualities of a charlatan so I figure that's what we are getting with this dude. 26 is really fucking young though. I'd imagine he wouldn't be able to get away with the frowny/shouty stuff Tennant somtimes uses in lieu of authoritarian gravity so that's a plus.

Blecch. Too young, and an obvious sop to RTD more than anything else. He seems to be a good actor, but I can't see him pulling off "900 year-old mastermind". Plus, we're guaranteed more kissy-face nonsense, which I am beyond fed-up with.

Really wished they had gone with Patton Oswald.

Dr Who confidential had a bit where they were talking about an actor ether looking like The Doctor or not, and to me this guy does not look like the Doctor.

Wathing him in this clip makes me feel a little better, particularly the bit towards the end.

He's not the most immediately exciting choice they could have made, but I'm willing to give it a go.

There's no question there's ben a general progression to skew younger and younger as the years have gone on. I would have been tickled if they'd bounced back to up to someone of Nighy's age, but perhaps there's something to the age of the new Doctor in what Moffat's got planned storywise.

Regardless, THAT is the new keystone element for me. If Moffat can handle the show half as well as he writes his individual episodes, we're in for an interesting ride.

Which is funny because this guy is really odd looking.
I was just about to say that he doesn't really have your classic heartthrob looks. Also if that interview is anything to go by the guy is autistic.
Yeah that finger thing he did in the air. It cracked me up. I'm referring to the Who Confidential seven minute interview on Youtube.

Oddly enough I had no idea some wanted Jack Davenport. Who I know is in Pirates but I know him from being in Swingtown. The guy looks like he could play a young Dan Akroyd.
Jack Davenport was being bandied around because his big break was in Coupling which was one of Moffat's earlier shows.
Davenport is great, or at least he was in Ultraviolet.
Davenport is great, I think Pirates kind of killed his career though. I always thought it would have been interesting to see him get a 'proper' lead role but I think the failure of Ultraviolet relegated him to supporting actor.
Actually he was pretty good in Swingtown. I wouldn't have known the guy was British if you just saw him in that show.

Apparently Tommy Carcetti was in the running for the new Doctor at one point.
