My answer to the same question... Because one fifth of Americans need to be shot in the face. Seriously, how can a person who can't find the country they fucking live in on a map contribute to society? I'm pretty sure most kids with actual mental handicaps can find the US on a fucking map or even *gasp* a fucking globe.

I actually feel sorry for the girl. I don't think her future sham marriage is some form of poetic justice. People should pay attention in school and not choose to be ignorant in favor of being in beauty pagents. I never did anyone's homework and I never held it against a girl for rejecting me. Actually... while I do find it odd and sad that people can't find their country on a map, I have to say that unless you are a geography teacher or perhaps a travel agent of some sort, that knowledge will rarely come in handy in every day life.

What that girl really needs is some critical thinking skills so that she could bullshit a proper answer.

You guys are right. Map reading skills are useless. I sure wish I couldn't find the country I live in on a map. I am such an elitist dickhead for being offended by this girl for being too stupid to answer a question about why people are too stupid.

Yeah... ah, it's still pretty pathetic that someone (not saying this girl) couldn't find there own country on a map. Sure it may not come into play a day to day basis... or ever but come on, you should still know where you live. And just to clarify I'm meaning people from countries were they get educated all the way through high school levels not some poor, third world countries were education doesn't exist. There's no reason for an American kid in grade 9 to not be able to find the U.S. on a map.

It's not just about whether someone can find the country in which they live on a map. It's a question of awareness and knowledge that other countries exist besides yours, and that conditions and standards of living and all sorts of other things are different in those countries. And then it's a question of knowledge that there's only one world in the whole Universe on which we know we can live, and that we're fucking it up basically by being extremely stupid and blinkered and parochial.

I don't think the problem is that she's stupid, or doesn't think people who can't find their own country on a map are stupid, it's that she was trying to find the best "pageanty" answer to the question and got lost in the woods. You're not going to score points with pageant judges by answering "People are stupid," and it sounded like she was struggling to work hope, babies, courage, and world peace into one coherent answer.

Oddly enough, the average is exactly 100... at least theoretically. IQ may be rising over time, but it is supposed to get readjusted to its 100 mean, so maybe the average ranges from 100-102 or so.
