A place for those of us in leagues other than the CHUD ones to share our glory and despair.
The league I've been in for the last five years had their draft this past Thursday. We have a couple of higher-ups from a local golf course in our league, so we get to use their clubhouse after hours and it really makes for a nice setting. We draft auction style, which took some adjusting after being used to a serpentine draft, but it's a lot more fun and gives everyone a chance for the top players if they're willing to pay for them.
We also introduced keepers this year, letting us keep two players from last year for 1.5 times their auction price last year. I ended up with Matt Leinart for a dollar last season and didn't have to think twice about keeping him for $2. I also held on to Jerious Norwood, a waiver wire pickup last year.
Since my starting QB was taken care of for all of two bucks out of a $200 salary cap, my goal was to get one of the top three backs, price be damned. And ended up with Tomlinson for $80 (a dollar more than I had him valued at). I still had some good cash left, but the problem was a lot of owners were being stingy and seemed to be holding on to cash to outbid everyone for those players that fall through to the later rounds. So I held on to mine as well, while some premium receivers went for what looked like bargains (though I feel receivers are a little overvalued based on our scoring). Well, I ended up with $23 unspent, which was a blunder, but not as bad as they guy who was left with almost $50.
Here's what I ended up with (we don't start TEs as a separate position, they count as receivers):
QB - Matt Leinart
QB - Joey Harrington
QB - Chad Pennington
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson
RB - Marshawn Lynch
RB - Thomas Jones
RB - Jerious Norwood
WR - Joey Galloway
WR - Greg Jennings
WR - Mike Furrey
WR - Chris Cooley
WR - L.J. Smith
K - Stephen Gostkowski
D - Cowboys
Harrington and Pennington were picked up for a buck each and are basically only going to see the field if Leinart dies. I'm happy with my backs, but would have liked to have done more with my recievers. Kickers and defenses don't score much in our league, so no one usually grabs more than one at the draft, being content to do a waiver swap in the bye week.
How'd everyone else do?
