Tampa's really giving Marc Denis as much hate as possible so Im sure they'd be open to trading him to anyone thats interested. I dont think hes really bad but Tortorella seems to have a problem with him. Last season in the playoffs he didnt even let Denis suit up for the last few games.

So yea, you can have Denis for a defenseman that doesnt suck on the penalty kill.

Carolina Hurricanes (while some of our players are injured) are still finding a way to kick some major ass. We totally blew out Buffalo last night in the third period.

I'm actually going to the next game Friday night against the Canadians. Can't wait.

At least Eric Cole (that fat fucker) won't be there to plow through our defense.
Fuck I hate playing your team. Every time it's like we become the worst team in the league when we play against you guys.

Did anyone see that Chara vs Koci fight last night?

That was pretty awesome. Koci's face covered in blood and Chara holding his hand like he broke his finger from punching Koci in the helmet and then straight in the nose.
I didn't see it but I saw Chara against Montreal. He had a bad night and took some bad penalties out of frustration. Is he starting to regret signing with Boston?

If the opportunity arises, I think the Bruins should trade him for some top youth. Alone, I believe Chara is overrated. He doesn't make your defense great just by having him on your team (unlike a Niedermeyer, Pronger or Lidstrom) but he's great if he plays with a good team.
The Kings signed Dustin Brown to a 6 year contract extension worth $19 mil. So much for the trade rumors involving him for a goalie.
Worked with a guy who grew up with Brown in Ithaca. Said he was a nice guy, and even tried to get him to move to LA as part of his security.

Saw that Chara-Koci fight via Off Wing Opinion. Ouch.

So what's the verdict on the Bergeron hit? Illegal? Or legal, and Mr. Bergeron put himself in a bad spot?

So, after getting clobbered in Carolina, the Sabres squeak out two wins. Didn't see last night's game, but tonight was a nice comeback. It almost felt like the last two years again. (I'll take barely onside OT goals any day of the week.)
The status of that goal as onside seemed a little weak but totally understandable as a judgement call from the ground. The disallowed goal from St. Louis earlier in the third was nonsense though. The goal got taken away on goaltender interference but no penalty was given. If its not going to be a penalty then its not against the rules and hence the goal should be allowed...it just didnt make sense to me.

Haven't seen the replay. Apparently the Tampa broadcast slowed it down frame by frame, and Paetsch's trailing skate was barely on the blueline.

As for the goalie interference, got no idea why there was no penalty on the play.

well I went to the Carolina game friday night which was still fun, even though the Canadiens had our number. See Staal kick ass on the penalty shot was worth the $150 for seats.

I just wish we could have went to last night's game when we destroyed the islanders.

bringing this thread back too since Sid the Kid was injured and out for a while. Worth discussing IMO.
The report I read today says he's likely to be out up to eight weeks. Seems a little much for a high ankle sprain but I guess thats the one sprain that takes longer than any others. Im not a big Pens fan but I was looking forward to seeing Crosby in the all-star game working his magic on the same line as some of my favorite players.

Staal wins the MVP last night at the all-star game? I'll take it.

now I hope he can jolt the Hurricanes into actually playing.

Trade deadline is today methinks. Anyone scared of any crazy last minute trades.

The way Carolina has been playing of late (which is actually good), I don't want Rutherford to make any more trades, our guys are playing good together.

I spoke too soon.. We acquire Ruutu from the blackhawks for Andrew Laad.
I think everyone saw Brad Richards and Vaclav Prospal getting traded but I had no idea they were evening considering Johan Holmqvist. So now the lightning have officially acknowledged the end of their season now that they have two rookie goalies with marginal experience. Though given the state of the southeast their season probably ended a long time ago. Im thinking at this rate only the winner of the division will even make it to the playoffs.

I spoke too soon again. Ruutu kicked major ass last night.. as we kicked New Jersey's ass. Finally.

Steve Bernier looked REAL good tonight. I'm excited.

well the Canes lost one to the Crapitals.. but it was one hell of a game.

In fact I hope the Capitals make the playoffs, we need more SE teams representing.
*grumble*

Not only are the Sabres missing the playoffs, they're shitcanning their AHL affiliation here in Rochester, which they've had since Carter was in the White House. The Amerks, as they are so called, are suffering through their worst season in almost 40 years: unless they finish strong, they're going to have their lowest win total since 1971.

Not a good time to be a hockey fan in Western New York.

Best CHUD sport post ever. Nice work.

Thank you, thank you! I'm here all playoffs.

I bet somewhere in Toronto, there is a caller calling the fan590 saying "We're going to be fine. Sundin is back, and we're gonna get that 8th spot!"

I just want to see a potential 1st round match up of Alexander the Great and Sid the Kid.

Also, here's hoping the Avalanche keep it in "must win mode" tonight against the Oil.

well tommorrow night is probably the biggest game in the SE as Carolina plays Washington AGAIN. 2 points separate both teams from the SE title and getting into the playoffs.
I can not wait for the real playoffs to begin (right now we are in the playoffs for the playoffs). Being a big Penguins fan, this is the first time I am really excited for the post season in oh so long. The team is actually pretty exciting, and I am interested to see if they can shine on the big stage.
Yes! The Lightning finally win something worthwhile this season! Though knowing Jay Feaster Im sure he'll trade the first draft pick to another team for someone elses back-up goalie.

Well, fuck, Calgary won last night. Thankfully, it snowed buckets this morning so they talked about that and I didn't have to deal with the local radio stations blathering on about how this will be another 2004 run for the Flames. Fuck, I hate the homers in this city.
Mah team, is gonna kick your collective asses this year.

Seriously, I just hope they kill Boston, Ottawa and Pittsburgh, but if those last ones win, it would be slightly less worse.
Not surprising, the only channel I could find a game on last night was Versus. Luckily it was my team, the Penguins. What was a surpise to me is that the NHL channel wasn't even showing a game.

You would think with the desperate need for fans the NHL would show a playoff game on their own freakin' station. It's not like any of the big networks are showing games, especially during the week.
I'm loving the idea of a Boston/Montreal series. It's the seventies all over again. I'm not even that big of a fan of either team but I'm excited about the series.

How come?

Also, fuck the fucking snowfall we got today. Took me 2 hours to get to work.

I used to like the Flames until the 2004 run. Now every Flames fan in this city thinks it's fait accompli that they'll get another run like that and it'll be just as rowdy and just as exciting as then. Nostalgia for partying on 17th, seeing saggy cougar tits, and pissing in plants in front of Melrose Place is kinda sad. People in this town just beg for a reason to be douchebags that isn't the Stampede.

the rumor mill on Canescountry.com is that Laviolette might not be the Hurricanes coach next year. And worst case scenario, he moves to coaching in Atlanta. GAH!!

Fuck, them Habs are for real. Jesus, did they ever spank the "Broons" last night.

I like when the clown almost pulls a "Shockmaster" and knocks his helmet off.

Montreal's had me worried last two games. Passing has been awful. Alot of the players are fumbling the puck.

That insurance goal in the 3rd last night was exactly what I needed, especially after game 1. Was Biron on fire or what?
Indeed. Still very worried about this series, but am glad they pulled off a win in a game they really didn't deserve. They could win a few more like that if Biron keeps it up.

Ahhhh. The Dirty Flyers.

You guys deserved the 1st game. That's it. The number of post in game 2 and 3 is staggering, and so is all those failed opportunities that made Montreal lose these 2 games. And our talented yet really young and underpressured goalie.

While the series is basically Biron vs Montreal, it's mildly entertaining to see who will suck less tonight. Considering Montreal's superior team who are playing at 20% and the still-shitty refs who gives the game to one side or another by not making a call, it's also frustrating to watch. But damn is Biron excelling. So is Upshall and Prospal.

Now, since Philadelphia, under Stevens, have been playing like the Hanson brothers that made them infamous in the 70s by willingly injuring players all season long, could we get more of these 5 minutes majors that are actually deserved?

And Philly people. Are you sleeping while attending these games? Where's the fun?
Brion has been pretty lucky, if youse ask me.

I'm thinking Price is going to bounce back in a huge way tonight. Torching him in the 3rd like that was a wake-up call if I ever saw one.

On a different note, looks like the Penguins ARE for real. Doesn't bode well for the Habs in the Eastern Conference Final. Bruins were a team that couldn't bury their chances, the Flyers can bury their chances, and the pens bury all of their chances, and then some more. Their scoring chances have scoring chances. It's absurd. a lot of pundits called for the Rangers to go the Cup Finals, but I'm thinking they (Pittsburgh) are going to steamroll the Habs.

Then again, with Max Lapierre being the Lex Luthor to Crosby's Superman, and the fact that no matter how you cut it, Fleury isn't the goalie that he's been playing as recently, you never really know.

NHL Playoffs. Gotta love 'em.

Well, the Flyers are winning because Biron, with all his luck, his stopping the Habs big time, and they can't capitalize on all the opportunities the Flyers are giving them, which is a fuckload of them. And these guys take the few mistakes the Habs do and score on it. Whether it's a lucky goal or not, the psychological effect of trying over and over again and being denied like that takes it toll, and Price is the first one to suffer on that.

Montreal is the superior team, even in the last 3 games, no matter how shitty their glorious offensive was, but like you said, it's the Playoffs, anything can happen. I expected a good series, considering Briere and the Montreal offensive, but it's a debacle for both teams.

Now, let's rest, let Price gain some experience and come back stronger next year, and let the Penguins assfuck Philadelphia instead of Montreal.

Stanley Cup: Pittsburgh vs Dallas, and that's gonna be a close one. The veterancy of Dallas vs the sheer talent of the young Penguins backed with old key elements.
