Monster Man

Thread Starter
After getting home from the incredible bit of campy fun that is Shoot 'Em Up last night, I had to know what else the writer/director has done. Among some truly odd/hysterical films like Prehysteria 2 and 3 and Double Dragon (yes, he wrote Double Dragon) he made a film in 2003 called Monster Man, which caught my interest.

It basically looks like just another killer car movie (trailer's on IMDB), and exactly like the kind of movie I'd pan just for its Lionsgate DTV status, but from reviews I've read it's supposed to be more campy fun.

Has anyone seen it? Worth a rent?

Justin reviewed it in his "Bits of movies I saw on cable".

It's alot of fun. Not nearly as polished as SEU appears to be, but it is quite gory and funny. Better than what I expected. I picked up the dang coverbox a dozen times at the video store, but didn't give it a chance till I found out who directed it (and had a free coupon). There's even a bit of story (some very silly) and character development to it beyond the standard "stuck in the middle of nowhere when f**ked up shit happens" plot.

I recommend.

I'd elevate it above this assumption, personally (especially if you liked what the director would go on to make). Keep your expectations in check and you might enjoy it.

Ripoll's right. I wrote a very little bit about it here:

It's a strange, kind of unruly flick, but it has its charms. I thought the gal was pretty hot, so there's that. At least it has fun within its dumb movie shell.

Yeah, it's a really bizarre, strangely fascinating movie. I got sucked into watching it one late night while channel-surfing. I also thought it was funny because the "hero" is that guy that played the psuedo-Duckie in "Not Another Teen Movie". And it does not skimp on the gore...there's blood and flesh and body parts all over the place.

It's almost like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre knock-off, but instead of chainsaws, it's a monster truck. It's definitely worth a rental.

Love this one a lot. Guess because the main characters reminded me of the male versions of me and my best friend. ;-)

Yep. Given the cover looks like absolute shit (like that Robosaurus flick), the movie was a real surprise.

It's a strange, purposely bad, yet sort of winking and surprisingly gory film that catches you by surprise when you watch it on accident. It's not great, but it's modestly impressive when you catch it on cable in that "whatever" sort of mood. I have to say it makes Shoot Out a little more of a must say to know it's supporting the same guy. He at least understands sensibilities and how to tweak them from what I've seen.

Pretty fair assessment. Even the love scene and accompanying music seemed intentionally cheesy.

And SPOILER (highlight):

The DVD's Main Menu spoils the twist. That was frustrating. I would have liked to not know that the girl was in on it. The menu shows footage of the girl with a rather evil expression (holding a shotgun, I think). I suspected the entire time.

I love this flick.....sooooo much fun. Come on, who ever would have thought they'd hear YODA during a sex scene?

Coming from the girl, no less.

I was pleasantly surprised as well when I rented this flick back in 2005. A great little gory flick, that has a lot of well placed humor. Yeah, that Yoda bit is as hilarious as it is bizarre. I also like the "Rosebud" bit, and the raccoon scene in the motel room had me laughing out loud.
