For the love of ...movies.

Thread Starter
CHUD.com and its message board are great places to hang out, get information and talk movies. It’s the movies that ostensibly bind this whole thing together, but there is something more. We talk about a vast array of topics here; but why do we talk about them here and not some other, more focused site?

Is it because we are movie people? You find a group that have similar tastes in one area and presume that it will carry over to others? Is it the snark? We have plenty of that to go around.

I was pointed here in 2001 because Gracie couldn’t stand me going on and on about FOTR. I needed someone to get excited with, share the pictures that came out on a daily basis. To Geek Out as it were.

I love movies though I don’t nearly have the time, or money, that I used to be able to spend to keep up. Most of the movies I watch now are on cable, which is great because I love older films. When I was young I wanted to direct. We made movies when we were 10 and 11 years old. We had a Black and White camera and a VCR plugged into an extension cord and made our versions of Smoky and the Bandit and CHiPs. I still want to direct, but that ship has sailed.

I’d love to write for the site. A DVD review once in a while or something, but I never have the time.

I’m not sure what my point is, but that’s why I post at Chud. Just to be here with my people.

Great post. For me, part of the allure of this community is being around people who share my sense of humor. Yes we are all movie people, and presumably that's what brought us all here, but when a girl getting her feet lopped off at Six Flags results in one of the funniest (and punniest) threads in CHUD history, I appreciate that it takes a certain type of person to laugh at that.

Also, having been a member of CHUD for 7 years (holy crap, I've been a member for 7 years!!!), I find that the people here really are people. Sure we get the occasional guy who posts as a cat, but I find that most folks who post here are just happy to be themselves (as much as one can be over the internet). In recent years, Chewers have been switching over to their real names, posting pics of themselves and family members, and particiapting in gift/CD/book exchanges. There are Chewers whom I am pround to call my friends. I met several in person, spoken to others over the phone, and have e-mailed/IMed with many others. That makes a huge difference in how I spend my time. I browse other internet sites, but the personal factor is what made me join this one.

Nothing for me to add here - couldn't have said it better myself. This is exactly why I post here.

I came here to discuss the Matrix sequels. I stayed because of the people. There's a level of civility and intelligence here you don't get with other big message boards. You can pretty much discuss anything here and find others who have something interesting to say on the topic. Where else can I discuss movies, MMA, and politics with some level of intelligence?

Ditto, guys. This place is great.

Only site that has EVER convinced me to join an MB. Since then, I barely look for movie-related news or film-discussion anywhere else. Might make me a little myopic and insular? Maybe, but no other site offers the perfect mix that CHUD does. Why waste my time elsewhere?

I'm here only to stick up for females in trouble, so they can have sex with me later.

I really don't have much to add to what has already been said. I'll just say that I've been a member for about three years or so, and in the last year I've really begun to feel like I'm part of the community. I love CHUD, and this is my one stop shop for movie news, humor, good conversation (even when I don't participate...more to the point, ESPECIALLY when I don't participate), and more. Thanks to all who participate, whether it be on the MBs or the main page. You guys are the reason I keep coming back.

I'm addicted to Chud...not only is it film buff heaven, but the quality level of the discussions (and humor) are unparalled on the internet.

Plus the people are great...it's like going to Cheers, but for film lovers.

I like the fact that along with being film lovers, quite a few of the posters are borderline alcoholics. Makes me feel like I fit in just that much more...

I came to CHUD via a link to Creature Corner at the After Dark Horrorfest websie last year. I instantly liked CC because they had more info than the official fucking site did, and plenty more intresting stuff besides. When I found out CC was actually a small part of a larger family of MB's, and started branching out into them as well, my time here just got better and better (as wella s increasing tremendously in volume, much to my wife's chagrin). Diva nailed it, though, in that the folks here are, by and large, really cool people. I have yet to meet any in person, but talk regularly w/ Alex at CC, mainly in connection w/ my book reviews. I hope to someday meet as many Chewers as I can. There's more than one person here whose hand I'd genuinely like to shake. Al puts together creature corner film festivals for the Corner Creatures in the NYC area on a semi regular basis; I haven't been able to make any due to accidents of timing, but I wonder if a more generalized similar gathering might not be possible for the boards at large?

Edited to add: I've spent a lot of time at more focused MB's in the past, but I've never had as much fun at any of them as I do here.

Okay WayDen, you've stepped over the line there.

"Borderline", how insulting.

This site is fantastic. I had been visting it for a short time in the fall of 2005, then became a member as it says in my join date, in January of 2006. Like Darkmite, I barely go to any other movie sites, and even though I'm a member of three other message boards, I haven't posted in them in a long time. CHUD is the only place that I post, because I like it here. It's fun, the articles on the main site are nothing short of awesome, the discussions on the board are great, and I feel that I've made friends here.

CHUD and the forums basically 'are' where I go for movie-related shit. I respect the opinions I get here, and they've never steered me wrong. On top of that, I just like the atmosphere and the people.

There's also a comforting sense on these boards that if someone is being a stupid shit, he'll get called on it. Intelligence usually wins out around here, and I have never seen that anywhere else in my wanderings amongst the various intertubes.

In short, I think you're all awesome.

EDITED: Because I said "around here" approx 800 times.

I just followed the trail of his "Holy Hirsuteness" from old IGN to this here place.
I've been reading this site since 2001, and joined the message board a couple of years later, but I haven't participated much until recently.
CHUD is the only place I trust for movie reviews, and the quality of writing has soared the past year.

The messageboard can be daunting at times, but most Chewers seem to be decent people (or at least some form of people), most of the time.

I'm really looking forward to the redesign, but I can't imagine this place any better.

I too found the main site during the LOTR mania. I kept coming because I really think that the writers here are head and shoulders above anyone else on the web and the majority of the press. The boards are great too, if you are mature enough to not take everything you read seriously.

I don't post here as much as I used to but this is still the only place I come to for movie news. Chud has a damn fine set writers contributing on it and the comuinity as a whole is good to feel a part of.

I've earned too much green to leave.

And it seems that Chud coins a new insult every once in a while. I need those to survive in the streets.

I joined so I could start a thread about ninjas.

I stayed because the thread got 60 replies.

Similar to Iggy, I joined CHUD via Creature Corner a few years ago (pre-Dread Central). I'd browse CHUD from time to time, and slowly got hooked. About a year or so ago, I finally plucked up the courage to join the Message Boards, and I wish I'd done it sooner.

I joined because I was hoping Ripoll would think I was a women in trouble and try to defend me...then I would have sex with him.
I stick around because it's the place where I can let my inner geek run free.

I'm just here for the donuts, thanks. Is anyone going to eat that last bearclaw?

If it wasn't for this wonderful website, I never would have been able to confuse the hell outta my friends by shouting, "Oh Don Piano!" while playing endless rounds of Halo 2.

I love you CHUD. You are the mistress I cheat on my girlfriend with.

Damn. I knew I should've gone with 'functioning' alcoholics. Live & learn...

EDIT: You know, one thing I do love about this place is that most of the posters have great 'idiot' detectors. When a new poster starts a thread about a subject no one in their right mind would rightly consider a 'subject of discussion' (box office receipts of movies that don't exist), they call them out on it pretty damn quickly, and with the same amount of mercy that John McClane shows terrorists.

I'm here for the rep.

I usually don't jump into these type of threads, but I'm feeling a bit buzzed right now, so I will let my love spring forth.

I joined the boards because I was in a wheelchair for a time a few years ago and the internet was my only escape. My fat brother would frequent the site (DeadChickRFun was his tag) and recommended it to me. I lurked for a bit, then decided to register and immediately created a thread that had been done-to-death at that point. Many of the Chewers kindly pointed out my mistake, but they still participated in the thread.

I found that many of the Chewers share my same sense of dry humor, which is very rare in certain parts of the world. I come for the conversation and the laughs, as well as the fantastic movie news and discussions.

I have tried to converse in other MBs, but I have yet to find one as unique as this one.

I post here so Nick will continue sending the checks.

On a serious note, it's the music section that tends to keep me coming back. I love the conversations about movies but I find that sometimes the movie and the Chewer sections devolve into one-note jokes and random insults. That tends not to happen in the music area.

Even when I took a break from CHUD a while back (too busy at work) I found that I would check in on the music section once in a while and ignore the rest. It's actually what brought me back in after being away for so long.
