Game Clocks vs. Wii Play Time

How are in-game clocks on games determined? I was looking at my completion time and realized what it said couldn't possibly be the true amount of time I have spent with this thing so far. So I went into the Wii message board and tallied up my play time messages for MP3.

Wii Play Time: 28:04 in MP3:Corruption

MP3:Corruption Game Completion Clock: 23% @ 9:32

Does it not register areas that you have to replay?

On another board I asked someone said it doesn't count cutscenes/dialogue/etc. I don't see that cutscenes have made up for two thirds of the time I have been playing.

I was curious about this as well.

Did you leave the game paused for any extended periods of time? Prime doesn't exactly have a conventional pause screen, but I don't know if the map acts as one.

I have paused it with the Home button and left it for about thirty minutes. But mostly I have been actively playing.

Yeah, I'm not sure then. My friend has had similar time discrepancies but nothing that dramatic.

I sincerely doubt MP's play clock registers things like time spent repeatedly attempting something like a boss encounter, or game pauses, or, well, just about anything that doesn't further you through the narrative.

The Wii Play time indicator also includes opening logos, the front end, and any time spent dicking around with the menus. And it always rounds up to a minute.

So when someone says they finished a game with XX:XX time, what does that mean? Do most people quote the physical time spent playing or the game clock?

I will have to go back and check but I think I had 27 hours on the game clock for SPM. I think my physical time playing that was very close to the game clock.

Most people quote the game clock.
