Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will publish Project Origin, the videogame sequel to the hit game F.E.A.R., developed by Monolith Productions for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows®. The name was chosen by the fans, as they submitted entries and then voted for the winning submission.

“Project Origin is the name we can stand behind since it was picked by the gaming community, and this game marks a new beginning for the franchise,” says Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “With the consoles and the PC, we’re dedicated to add a new game dynamic to the universe and build upon what the players loved about the original game.”

“Our team really enjoyed letting the fans drive the naming process, and we are excited to expand upon the work we began in the original game and establish Project Origin as a premier gaming franchise in its own right,” said Troy Skinner, Producer, Monolith Productions.
Not to be confused with F.E.A.R. 2, which is being made/published by someone else and will likely be an "in-name-only" followup.

If they could take the FANTASTIC firefights and squad based dynamics from FEAR and get rid of the stupid Ring stuff I'd be most happy. It'd also be nice to play some levels which weren't a sewage plant/warehouse/office.

Seriously I think FEAR had some of the best Firefights I've ever seen in a game but it was massively hampered by the general sameyness of the enviroments.

Project Origin the worst name for a game I've ever heard. And I've heard of Yo, Noid!

The enemy AI in the first game was indeed excellent, but yeah, the environments were very boring.

As for Project Origin being a bad title, the other finalists were even worse.

If they could nix the invincible cheeto sprayed fat guys as well I'd be most grateful.

I love how they put in a "we think the title sucks but oh well" paragraph in the press release just to cover their ass from all of the questions/statements about the title.

I loved fighting those soldiers over and over again but they really need have more interesting environments.Larger scale battles would also be welcome.Fighting along side AI team members that are as smart as the enemies in FEAR would be wicked.

The fact that you were supposed to be fighting clones of the the bad guy also added to the monotony created by the mostly similar environments of the first game. The majority of the guys you came up against used the same exact model, which began to make me feel like the developers got lazy. They better not do anything like that in the new one.

It'd also be cool if they didn't bring back fights like the mech fights which were just tedious, and completely unlike the rest of the combat.

I liked some of the supernatural stuff, but it didn't pay off at all, so I'd be ok with it being gone.

It's essentially FEAR, with prettier textures. Right down to the identikit enemies and Urban (and dull as fuck) level designs.

Oh look, yet more Firefights in an office block.

Yes that's true, but in fairness that was just an area they "polished up" for the trailer; somebody on the development team posts on another messageboard I read, and he says there are more varied environments in the game than there were in the first.
