The RIAA is completely out of touch with reality, so in other words, it's business as usual.
You actually get a license code in the "Ringle" package to download the ring tone, which makes it even more amusing. Why go to the store to buy a single song CD (that also includes 1-2 other "bonus" remix tracks you probably aren't interested in) and then to your computer to download a ring tone, when you can download both the ringtone and the song separately for 1/2 the cost?
Of course, the problem with legal download strategies though is how DRM continues to trample on fair use. If you purchase the song, why the hell can't you use it for a ring tone anyway? Oh, that's right...DRM that's used "for the sole purpose of fighting piracy" requires you to buy multiple copies of songs to use on different mediums.
The RIAA and the MPAA really need to get their head out of their ass with regards to their law-abiding customers before anyone will ever remotely give a shit about their problems with Copyright Infringement.
