The Orange Box-featuring Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal, as well as the complete Half-Life 2 experience to date-is now available for pre-purchase via Steam, a leading online platform for the distribution of PC games. Those who pre-purchase the PC edition via Steam before October 10th will save 10% off the $49.95 regular price and get exclusive access to the Team Fortress 2 beta.

I'm not sure why it says order before October 10th to get into the beta. Because if you order on the 9th, by the time you actually get everything downloaded it will be time for everything to be unlocked.

The Orange Box would be a bargain at twice the price, especially for the console guys who haven't played HL2 and Ep. 1. I'm buying it via Steam, let's just hope it doesn't choke on release day.

If you haven't seen Valve's hilarious Team Fortress 2 character introductions you should definitely watch them:
Meet the Engineer
Meet the Soldier
Meet the Heavy

Also, some cool stuff about character design:
Illustrative rendering

It's really great, enough to keep you booting up after it crashes every five minutes. ...At least a few times.

No, it's fucking awesome.

Well, glad to see it's sort-of working. I was stuck on a very lovely loading screen before work this morning. Oh Steam, you and your hilarious inability to launch a game!

One of the times it crashed my monitor declared "No signal!" and promptly turned itself off. Upon reboot, Steam was having trouble connecting to the internet, so I opened network connections. It was empty. As in, no icons or headers or anything.

I should probably report this stuff.

After reading people's comments about TF2 I caved and pre-ordered Orange Box a few minutes ago. Unfortunately it'll probably take a few days to download TF2. I think I'll just play Peggle Extreme until then.

Starting the game windowed seems to fix the loading crash. For me it keeps crashing every now and then just randomly and almost always when pressing tab.

Still, what a great game.

I have a $50 Amazon gift certificate and I'm tempted to get this. I don't play much multiplayer, so I don't know how much I'd get out of TF2.

Reading the positive TF2 comments at various places is weakening my will, though.

If you buy it through Amazon you won't be able to do the beta.

Ah, I remember the days of Team Fortress LAN parties my friends and I used to have.
