Rice, Patrick. It's what all starving people live on.

Ramen noodles are about 400 calories and 20 cents. You can't get better economy on your calories. So add to that your boiled eggs, your diced veggies (whatever's on sale; tomatoes, potatoes, corn) and you're good. Also 33 cent boxes of off-brand mac and cheese, jiffy corn muffin mix, and 33 cent cans of corn and green beans. Got me through college.

Since you said they make you feel healthier, yes.

Well, I'll add red wine, green tea, and cocoa for their alleged health benefits.

Fruit Roll-ups dipped in Ragu Alfredo sauce, with chocolate sprinkles on top.

That is the shits.

If you must know, Oreo Crisps and Nutterbutter Crisps. Until they wound up in those handy 100 cal snack packs I had no idea they were healthy. Learn something new every day

Low calorie, OK. That doesn't necessarily make them healthy though.

Never said they were. Note the smiley at the end. There's alot of stuff that's touted as healthy that isn't. Look at Subway sandwiches.

Now go make the delicious new meal I've created for you's.

It's not always about calories per serving but also the amount of food you're eating i.e. portions.

Funny thing about smaller portions. When I was in Asia with my girl, everything there was half the portions you get in the States but I never felt hungry after finishing. Someone also said that it's better to have 6 meals a day with smaller portions than 3 meals at regular portions. Supposed to help with metabolism.

Well, that's what Schwarzenegger suggests.

Price-wise, I think you're better off just buying bulk pasta and oil. Ramen is dirt cheap, but not as cheap as raw pasta and a giant bottle of canola oil. It's probably cheaper than twenty cents a meal for comparable calories.

Crazy Washingtonians and their apples. It is weird, no matter where I am living I almost always make sure I have plenty of apples (I grew up in Tacoma).

That was funny.

Here's an article I googled. I'm sure there are others....

Granola:
Most brands are loaded with calories and sugar. In fact, granola is one of the most calorie-dense cereals on the market. A typical 2/3-cup serving has 220 calories and 17 grams of sugar, or the equivalent of 4 teaspoons of sugar. What’s more, most people pour 2-cup portions – that’s a whopping 660 calories and 51 grams sugar, or 12 teaspoons of sugar!

Probably because there's so many varieties.....

Had no freaking idea. Love the Honey Crisp variety.

Rice and beans are the cheapest thing you can get that's not too bad for you. Also, augmenting boxed shit is a good idea. Some frozen broccoli microwaved with mac & cheese is a good way of adding something healthy for not a lot of money. With ramen, I stir in an egg so that it breaks up as it cooks and some green onion. Those things are dirt cheap and go well with most of the stuff I've mentioned in this post.

I guess there is a fair amount of sugar in granola, but also fiber.

Summer fruit - blueberries, raspberries, plums, peaches, etc.
In one of the food threads, I posted about my favorite salad, which is basically chopped spinach leaves with either chicken or tuna, and tons of other goodies like sunflower seeds and raisins, and very little dressing. A little olive oil and vinegar or you wreck it.
Silk unsweetened soy milk
Roasted chicken
Egg White omlettes
Tofu
