Horrorfest '07 Passes To Go On Sale

Just checked out the Afterdark Horrorfest site to see if there was any news up there yet. In a disturbing echo of last year's website debacle, there's almost nothing up there yet. No list of theatres, no info on this year's films, nothing.

Except to note that there will be all access passes this year. No word on what they'll cost, but they're on sale this Saturday, 9/15. I'm buying me and my brother one at the earliest available opportunity. They supposedly also include a swag bag w/ some horrofest related goodies in it (a statue of the girl/moster poster they've been using, stickers, discount coupons on the inevitable Lionsgate Horrorfest '07 boxed set, etc). A select few will also have Golden Tickets that will allow the recipient to access parties to be held in 8 select cities around the country (of course, there's no word on which cities those are, much less what to expect at these parties; appearances by the actors or filmmakers? Private screenings only for Golden Ticketholders? Food? Liquor? Are they BYOAxe? ).

I had a great time at the 06 version, even though the films weren't that great, more for the experience than anything else, and am looking forward eagerly to this one. Anyone else going?

Working on getting some kind of discounts and other things for readers. I should know what films are playing and such as soon as its announced.... but yeah, I was hoping some of the kinks from last year will be ironed out.

It appears that, other than having all access passes available, which were not available last year, all past kinks are still present. I can't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure by this time last year they at least had the moves that would be playing on the website, and maybe the list of theatres. As of now, they don't even have that. It's not looking like much of an improvement, but hey, it wasn't that hard to deal with last year. Just could have been handled better.

Oh, this is not a good sign. I just went to the horrorfestonline.com site to buy my all access passes, and there's a message on the site now, saying they're available September 20, not September 15.

There's a bit more content, as they have (very) brief blurbs up about 2 of the 8 films to die for available this year. But this thing is less than 2 months away. A list of theatres and films at least would be nice, even if I can't buy my passes yet.

My heart is continually broken, hoping for improvement in these things . . . You'd think that, considering all the pre-fest problems the public complained about with regard to the site last year, and how so many of us went anyway, making the thing a success, by all accounts I've heard, anyway, they'd make damn sure to fix these kinks this year.

Most those movies were pretty weak.

I LIKED - and actually bought - Wicked Little Things. Something about zombie kids armed w/ mining implements appealed to me. But I think Penny Dreadful was the best of the bunch last year. Bought that one, too. To each their own. I enjoyed Horrorfest more for the experience (being in a theatre full of like minded maniacs for 3 days straight and a lil' bonding w/ my brother) than the films themselves. I only hope a couple are decent this year as well. I'd consider it well worth it if they were.

I only went to two films last year (Grave Dancers and Reincarnation) and I would have gone to more if there had been some sort of discounted all-access pass. It was tough paying full price for what I knew were second-string indie films that wouldn't survive a full-fledged release.

Last year, there was a lot of misinformation about theaters and how to buy tickets. I had articles about the event on my website, and people were so desperate, they were writing to ME with their questions. Hopefully that will be cleared up this time around.

Got 'em!!! I'm so excited. And they are discounted. Last year it cost around $200.00 for my brother and me to see all 8 films. The all access passes are $75.00 each. The shipping was around $15.00. Two day shipping being a bit more expensive still.

Can't wait! Who else is going to go?

So, it's 90 dollars for one weekend?

Quote:
One admission to each of the 8 Films to Die ForĀ® during your specified weekend. You can choose either November 9-11 or November 16-18 to experience the chilling world of terror that is Horrorfest 2007.
For me, the incentive of a pass would be to save money, not spend more.

Paying for 8 screenings, one at a time, would cost me at most $74. If I went all matinees, $56. Plus, I could spread out my screenings over two weekends.

Getting a swag bag isn't worth spending more and getting less options.

Actually, there may be some problems w/ your proposed course of action n some cases. Some theatres do not appear to have matinees, and the way I read the info on the site re: purchasing an all access pass, you had to choose ONE of the weekends in question, a single pass won't work for both weekends (my receipt says I purchased one for the weekend of 9/9 - 9/11). W/ no matinees available, & the typical Jersey movie ticket being $8.00 + tax, + Fandango convenience charge (don't laugh; the shows in Elizabeth last year were all sold out, so I'd buy them that way, just to make sure I'd get them) would definitely cost me more than I paid for this. And you do get the goody bag, such as it is.

How is a pass that only works for one weekend a good thing? You'll have to live at the theater to see all 8 films. I'd rather spread it out over two weeks.

I wonder, will they even have all 8 movies available both weekends?

Supposedly they will have all 8 both weekends. I guess the idea behind a 1 weekend pass is so no one can see all 8 films more than once; you're only paying for 8. And yeah, you do kind of have to live at the theatre. That's a bit of a pain i the ass, but in a way it's kind of also part of the fun. The marathon like quality of it makes it feel like more of an accomplishment when you're finished.

And I AM married. All access pass to Horrorfest '07? $75.00. Getting out of the hose for 3 nights straight? Priceless.

Just got my passes & swag bags in the mail. And the verdict is: They suck. Got a poster w/ the girl/monster image, a poster for the manhint 2 videogame, a plastic sculpture of the girl/monster from the poster (& not a particularly good one), and a handful of coupons (1/2 off a subscription to "scars" magazine, a discount on a subscription to some internet pin up girl site, a discount on the purchase of an '06 After Dark movie, and a discount on the purchase of Manhunt 2. I honestly didn't expect much, so I'm only mildly disappointed. I am also a little disturbed (and not in the good way) by the fact that the entire lineup hasn't been anounced and we're what? Three weeks from the 1st weekend now? The slip of paper reminding me of that fact that the saw fit to toss in was no comfort, reminding me to check the official site the week before for final actual showtimes and lineups. For all its faults, at least by this time last year, we knew the lineup. (Sigh). My fingers remain crossed.

My emails aren't being returned, so looks like they fucked up on this one once again. I was hoping they'd get their shit together after the confusion of last year.

I'm gonna be REALLY pissed if they can't even get eight films together, regardless of their quality. I might be able to stomach a lack of info re: theatres & showtimes on the site, but please at least get this right. If they don't, I'd bet you anything it'll be next to impossible to get all or some of your money back from this clusterfuck of a company. Alex, I see the 8 films from last year being pushed all over (they're on On Demand & FearNet all the time, on sale on Amazon & in West Coast Video Stores, etc.). How did AfterDark do in sales on those? Did they come close to recouping the amopunt they spent on marketing last year (which I assume was their goal)?

Just checked the After Dark site again; they at least have titles up for all 8 fims, now, but they only have trailers for maybe 4 of them, and thumbnails of posters for 6. A couple of the trailers actually look interesting. I'm taking heart, a little.
