Best Solo Beatles Song

PAUL: "Jet"

Regardless of the lyrics ("I thought that the major, MUSCLY LADY, SUFFER AGAIN, JET!") this is pretty much the best song since sliced bread. Really rocks, in a nice clean '70s powerpop way, and makes you want to surf the wing of a jet. Or something.

JOHN: "#9 Dream"

If you had to show someone a solo John song to sum up all his solo work, it'd be this. Eerie, dreamlike, rather beautiful, and with pidgin Japanese.

GEORGE: "What is Life"

Feelgood, churning, powerpop. Most notable for its use in BIG DADDY. And by BIG DADDY, I mean GOODFELLAS. I can't believe they left it out of the "Concert For George" setlist, yet found room for an unfunny Monty Python routine starring Tom Hanks.

RINGO: "It Don't Come Easy"

Obviously, it's between this and "Photograph". I give the edge to this, if only because of the involvement of Badfinger.

While I can't stand it's subject matter, my favorite Lennon solo recently has been Oh Yoko.

I love the sheer, desperate-for-something-to-sing-about lameness of the lyrics for "Oh Yoko".

IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHAVE
IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHAVE I CALL YA NAME

Wow, he must really be in love with her!

John: "Instant Karma"

Can't get enough of that pounding piano line running through it, and the chorus is a fitting tribute to him.

Paul: "Band on the Run"

"Jet" is good stuff, I love "C Moon" and "Live and Let Die", but this has too many fond childhood memories attached to it. Plus it nicely covers all his musical styles.

George: "Dream Away"

Being attached to Time Bandits sure doesn'r hurt, but damn that chorus is catchy.

Ringo: "Photograph"

What Paul McCartney said, but I went the other way.

John: Acoustic version of "Watching The Wheels"

Paul: "Jet" (DOO-DOODOO-DOO-DOODOO!)

George: "My Sweet Lord," solely for that sweet slide guitar line

Ringo: I almost want to say "You're Sixteen" for the "creepy old man" value, but I'll go with "It Don't Come Easy."

I...agree completely with this. Like this is my list, exactly.

Also, "Mamunia."

Not really. Maybe "Let me Roll It" though. But for personal attachments.

Paul...Live and Let Die...One of the best James Bond opening songs.

Second to Nobody Does It Better...By Carly Simon.

I always liked 'Let 'em in' by Sir Paul, It has a really nice hypnotic beat to it.

John - Mind Games
Paul - Band on the Run
George - What is Life
Ringo - It Don't Come Easy
John: Mind Games or Jealous Guy
Paul: Maybe I'm Amazed
Paul: My Sweet Lord
Ringo: no feckin' idea, I obviously don't have one!

John - "Intuition"
Paul - "Every Night"
George - "Behind That Locked Door"
Ringo - "Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away, Raymond)"
I was tempted to go with "No More Lonely Nights" for Paul, but it's Gilmour's guitar that hits me more than anything Paul does on it.

Lennon-I don't know how any one can skip "Imagine" as his best song. As far as favorites, I'll take anything off of PLASTIC ONO BAND, today choosing "I Found Out."

Paul - "Live and Let Die"

George - "My Sweet Lord"

Ringo - I can't remember anything other than his few hits, so I'll have to go with "It don't Come Easy"

When it comes to John, I'd have to say "Imagine" and "Instant Karma" are, for me, tied for his `best' song...but my favorite is "Jealous Guy."

Paul: I used to say live and let live, but now I say LIVE AND LET DIE!!! BOMP, BOMMMM....BOMP, BOMMMM!!!!

For George, believe it or not, I choose "When We Was Fab." And I know it doesn't count, but if I could, I'd go with "Handle With Care."

Ringo? Fuck it. "(It's All Da-Da-Down to) Goodnight Vienna."

Two I haven't seen here yet:

John: Woman Is The Nigger Of The World

Paul: Give Ireland Back To The Irish
John: Jealous Guy (well, my favorite)

Paul: Maybe I'm Amazed (can stun me on every single listen)

George: What Is Life (sucker for a horn section, and it's so damn singable)

Ringo: OH MY MY -- Silly, hop-on-the-table-and-dance FUN! And again, great kick horns, my weakness. #2 with a bullet: I'm The Greatest (when evaluating Ringo, I figure it's best to stay light), but earns one technicality demerit from being Lennon-scribed.

I, uh, somehow grew up with a brother's leftover LP of RINGO mixed in with my Sesame Street records. I will not apologize for loving that album end-to-end. (I had Abbey Road, too. It's like my "Goodnight, Moon.")

I got a FEVER. . . and the only cure. . .is more kickhorn! I gotta have more kickhorn!

John: Watching the Wheels (I feel like this song pretty much all the time); Instant Karma is a close second.

Paul: Maybe I'm Amazed (a truly beautiful song in a post-Beatle career of shallow, albeit fun, music.)

George: What is Life (the energy in this song never fails to pick me up.) I also have a deep affection for When We Was Fab, but it pales in comparison to What is Life.

Ringo: It Don't Come Easy (nobody expected much from Mr. Starkey and he didn't disappoint, but this tune is the best of the bunch. "Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues," indeed.)
