Police: Simpson questioned in alleged casino theft

(CNN) -- Former college and NFL star running back O.J. Simpson has been questioned as a possible suspect in an alleged theft at a hotel-casino, a Las Vegas, Nevada, police spokesman said Friday.

Police say O.J. Simpson has been questioned as a possible suspect in an alleged theft at a casino.

The Thursday night incident may have involved an attempted transaction involving Simpson sports memorabilia, according to a TV report.

Sgt. John Loretto of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said there was "an allegation of a theft involving Simpson as a suspect."

"We haven't arrested him or anything else; the investigation is very preliminary right now," Loretto told CNN

Thomas Riccio told CNN affiliate Fox5 News (KVVU) television in Las Vegas that he witnessed what sparked the allegations at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino.

Riccio said Simpson was taking back items that he said had been stolen from him, the station reported.

Riccio said he received a call about a month ago from someone who wanted to auction some of Simpson's personal possessions by placing them on consignment. Riccio said he called Simpson, with whom he had done business in the past, and the former football player told him the items had been stolen from him, the station said.

Riccio said that as he was being shown the items in a hotel room, Simpson entered and seized them, according to the station. Riccio said there was no break-in, and no gun was used, the station said.

CNN has been unable to verify Riccio's account independently.

Attempts to reach one of Simpson's attorneys was unsuccessful. Lori Nelson, spokeswoman for the hotel, deferred comments to police.

Simpson was acquitted in 1995 in the slayings of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman. A civil jury later held him liable for the killings in a wrongful-death lawsuit, awarding the Goldman family $33.5 million.

Simpson has auctioned off some sports collectibles, including his Heisman Trophy, to pay part of the judgment.

Nicole Simpson and Goldman were stabbed to death outside her Brentwood, California, home in June 1994. Simpson, who appeared in movies after his football career ended, was arrested soon after the killings but maintained he was "absolutely, 100 percent, not guilty."

The Goldman family recently has published a book about the slayings. Simpson wrote the book under the title "If I Did It." However, an outcry led to the cancellation of a book deal for him, and a bankruptcy judge subsequently awarded the Goldmans the rights to the book in light of their inability to collect the wrongful death award. They renamed the book "If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer."

Is the sound we hear his lawyer blowing his own brains out, or his lawyer calling the bank to clear out more room in their vault for his wheelbarrows of anticipated OJ money?

Is there any OJ money left? With the rising inflation, CrimeCon Boise 2008 checks don't pay the wrongful death settlements like they used to.

This is so hilarious. He just told the AP that he was 'conducting a sting operation to get his memorabilia back.' Fantastic. I'm thinking of heading down to the Palace Station to watch the press conference.

Oh O.J., you scamp! We just love following your wacky hijinks!

I hope he had a Nordberg moment when the police caught up with him.

If this goes to trial, what will he do without the Chewbacca defense?
Maybe the "real killers" were hiding out in that hotel room and that's what this is all about.

OJ would have to be an idiot to go to trial. Half the jury would be holding a grudge over his previous acquittal.
For one thing, Jonnie Cochran is no longer with us to give us a quip that sums up the whole trial.

Please tell me Adam West was cast as the evil casino owner. He's perfect for that role.

With Leslie Nielsen as the other 10 guys in the crew. His make-up for the Asian Acrobat is hi-LAR-ious.
Wait a second, Nielsen can do black cockney? Damn, he's more talented than I thought.
Well, no, he can't. But like that'll stop him.
That's true, although I thought Bob Saget would be playing the Brad Pitt role?

Should'nt OJ find the real murderer of Nicole before starting a Sting operation?
Frankly, nailing OJ for theft brings back memories of how they could never nail Al Capone for the hundreds of murders he was responsible for but they got him on Tax Evasion.

He hasn't paid anything to the Goldman's so I'm sure his money is fine. He still gets the NFL pension.

That's the first thing I thought of too. Although this does give O.J. the opportunity to grab his golf clubs and search the country clubs of America for "The Real Burglars."
The local news is reporting that OJ has officially been arrested for charges of armed robbery. They also recovered the firearm in question.
He's gonna go to jail for this.
For this.
That's delicious.
What gets me is just how brazen he was in pulling this shit. There's a video camera in every hallway of these casino hotels, and he honestly thought it would be okay to do this?

I also like how Metro is very adamant in stating that, because this is O.J. Simpson, they will be extra careful in handling evidence and maintaining the proper chain of evidence.

Simpson was arrested at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas in connection with an alleged armed robbery, police said.

On Saturday, Las Vegas police arrested Walter Alexander and seized two guns in connection with the incident, a source told CNN earlier Sunday.

I hope he goes to jail and starts up a football team of rag tag murderers, rapists and violent crinimals who, through trials and tribulations, work together to become a good team and demand to take on a professional NFL team in the hopes that they can show the world that they are people too and then they win and O.J. is redeemed for all past sins.

I hope you're right - I really do - but it wouldn't surprise me if he walks again.

I'll also bet somewhere down the line someone compares this case to say Paris Hilton or Nicole Ritchie ("Oh, cause they were WHITE girls they got lesser sentences, but OJ, a BLACK man, is going to do 5-10 years?"). Y'know, just forget the fact that he was caught ON CAMERA, pulling this shit.

F. Lee Bailey! Barry Scheck! Robert Shapiro! Alan Dershowitz! Zombie Robert Kardashian and Zombie Johnnie Cochran! Dream-Team Assemble!

Kardashian is dead? Huh.

Anyway, fuck OJ. Double homicide aside, guy seems like a total piece of shit.

But the Zombie defense has never worked. If this fucker finally goes to jail, he'll wind up appealing because "Cochran kept trying to eat F. Lee Bailey's leg, so there was chaos in the courtroom. We demand a mistrial."

Hey, it worked for Claus von Bülow. Didn't you see Reversal of Fortune? That had zombies.

No, wait, that was just Ron Silver. My mistake.
