Friday was Gonzalez's last day...I thought it seemed nicer than normal here in Boston...anyway, here are a few of his remarks:

Gonzalez later added, "And that was just Cheney!"

Zing!

Anyway, see ya later twerp. You deserve to be keelhauled.

Did he really say those things? Obviously he's talking about the brown people on the other side of the world but, man, you'd think a speechwriter would change that a bit so it didn't apply to the Bush Administration so much.

Was he there to recieve an award for total lack of self-awareness?

Was he TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF LOL?

The guy is so average is hurts to think about it. I actually have a hard time hating him, for the same reason I have a hard time hating drywall.

I'm sure they won't replace him with someone just as bad...

You realize they just put people in those positions that will just either reflect the administration's "sensibilities" or be their yes men.

Ahhh, lesson #4,345 for the Bush Administration that loyalty does not equal competence.

Hating the swine who defend the US policy of torturing prisoners is pretty easy, actually. Gonzales is scum.

That's exactly it. If Gonzalez's only problem was the firing of the USA's, then I'd have much less contempt for the man. However, this a-hole has his fingers all over some of the more contemptible and loathsome policies that the US ever saw fit to implement.

I hope that's just outrage fatigue. If the DoJ nonsense had been uncovered in, say, 2003, there'd be lots of justifiable anger. Now, though, it's just recognized as another facet of Bush declaring himself King in all but name. Like the way he can claim executive privilege for the VP's office when it suits him, then claim the VP's office isn't part of the executive branch when that suits him.

Gonzales' departure isn't something worth celebrating. He's just another pointless crony thrown to the wolves to insulate the real criminals. He's a nobody. Does anybody really think he made a single decision on his own initiative? The entire administration is made up of puppets, and every once in a while, they toss a puppet on the fire to create the illusion that they're maintaining order. Losing Gonzales will change precisely nothing.

Have they decided who will replace Gonzalez? Please don't tell me it is Chertoff.

Another easily-controlled marionette. Does it matter?

No, but that' not necessarily his job. As AG, he provided legal cover for the odious actions taken by the Bush Administration. Now we can argue whether that cover was strictly necessary due to the Bush Admin's actions (as in, even if they didn't have a "good faith" legal argument to do the things they do, they would still do them), but the fact of the matter is he assisted the law breakers in the Admin by giving them that cover. Personally, I'd rather have seen him impeached and prosecuted. But, failing that, it's good to see Bush's inner circle get that much smaller. Gonzalez is another hatch mark in C. Thomas' Howell's gunstock, and that keeps me warm at night, baby...

Fuck you. I'm replacing him; an unambitious, eager to please tool with little self-awareness or humanity - able to switch between first- and third-person in the middle of a sentence whenever necessary and without consequence or responsibility. When answering questions at the inevitable corruption hearings required of this position, prosecutors will be baffled and frustrated at his crazy, bizarre logic so scatterbrained they won't know who to lock up when I refer to myself alternatively as "he" or "him". Yes, I should fit in well at the White House. Forwarding them his resume now.

Yeah, I know.
On a British forum I frequent, this topic title is reserved for Maggie Thatcher.
