The Fair - Page 2

I'm not buying it. I think someone burned a bit of blood in a petri dish and the hamdog there popped up and skittered off to the quiet breathing of "You have got to be shitting me" from a guy on the left.

Thanks for that, man.

Well that was folksy. I hear they have fried Coca Cola these days. Basically it's thick Coke syrup battered and deep fried. Yum! And for some reason, that hamdog looks tasty...
They're deep frying beverages now? Goddamn that is some serious American Innovation right there.

1. I'm hanging on to my old Motorhead jacket (painted denim, no less!), too. But not for the fairs. I doubt I could cram my fat ass into it anymore.

2. Damn you Dickson! Stop being wity for alittle while so I can pos rep you again!

They should serve meatcake at the fair.

A slice of that for dessert after a hamdog? Sho' nuff

When I was in high school I ate a Cap'n Crunch and Pixie Stix sandwich ala Ally Sheedy in Breakfast Club on a dare. I'll go eat a Krispy Kreme burger. I'm thinking a Wendy's junior bacon cheeseburger transplanted onto donuts. Anything for science.

The Hamdog is a hot dog wrapped in a beef patty that's deep fried, covered with chili, cheese and onions, and served on a hoagie bun topped with a fried egg and two fistfuls of fries.
Fun fact: the hamdog is one of a small group of foods which look look exactly the same after being eaten as they do before. It's like a gastronomic palindrome.

Meatcakes? Hamdogs? Man, Jhonen Vasquez must be having a field day knowing his creations are actually being realized.

Congratulations, you have all made me ill.

Sometimes I think the vegans have the right idea.

Oddly enough, I think this might be what mine does if I actually eat a hamdog. Literally. Oh, and the meatcake looks good, but it would have to be heated up before consumption. Cold meatloaf is perfectly acceptable, but cold mashed potatoes are for fools.

Do it. DO IIITTTT!!!

I tried to rep you, but the system wouldn't let me. However if you did eat that, I'd try my damndest to hack into the system and rep you a million times.

I ate a hamdog several years ago.

I am currently going through a series of health problems.

You decide.
I didn't eat it.

I gave it over to a friend to eat. I didn't quite make it to the specs of that burger, since the egg started to run and made the entire thing look like a Gremlin got caught in a microwave.

Right now, I'm trying to do the Meatcake for under 40 bucks.

Do you think some exec from KFC got the idea of the Failure Pile from going to a State Fair?

Anderson, did the friend survive? Or at least die with a smile?

The Fair is coming to my town in two weeks. I tried the deep fried Oreos last year. I promised myself that this year I would bring my own Double Stuf Oreos and ask the carney to cook those for me instead.

They are good with that powdered sugar and strawberry sauce on them.

If it's white and powdery and a carny is handling it, it probably isn't sugar.

It's pretty scary to think about the fact that if you're on the Tilt-a-Whirl and ait goes out of control, the only thing between you and possible death is a guy with enough chemicals in his system to be legally declared a pharmacy.

She got halfway through it and then said that the egg running out of the sandwich and mixing with the Chili made her want to gag.

I fried it the egg like I normally do, but I didn't think about the yolk running out of it when you bite into the sandwich.

This thread has inspired me and I'm driving a couple of hours south this weekend to attend the Virginia State Fair in Richmond.

Taking a camera.

Will report back.

Just remember, any ingestion of the food items detailed in this thread was done under your own accord and not part of your mission to detail the state fair. Should you become sick or die of a heartattack the boards will disavow any knowledge of your mission...This post will self distruct in five seconds.

Well, I found nothing gastronomically challenging enough to document at the VA State Fair. Lots of choices in the usual vein: corndogs, hot dogs, sausage dogs, gyros, those giant turkey legs, kettle corn, cotton candy, carmel apples, cheesesteaks, etc.

The only thing I saw that was out of the ordinary was brunswick stew (they had a competition), and as a native of Eastern N.C. I feel comfortable saying that it was some of the thinnest, least-interesting brunswick stew I've ever sampled.

A nice enough fair, though, if you are local and you have an evening to kill.
You said "vein" and "corn dog" in the same sentence. Don't do that anymore. You nasty, baby.
Just be glad that I dropped "footlong" from "hot dog." This is a family board, after all.

The first time I attended the state fair in SC I saw one of the food carts was serving crab rangoon. Carney crab rangoon. Wrap your mind around that.

*shudder*
