What was the most recent "show-stopper" bug you encountered in a game?

I'm lucky in that I usually manage to avoid them (always wait for the patch), but I found a doozy in the PC version of Stolen yesterday: the third level won't load. After the cinematic sequence ends, the "loading" screen appears and never goes away; can't even ALT-TAB or CTRL-ALT-DEL out. Only recourse is to shut the computer down via the power button.

I reloaded save games about four or five times to try and get around it, but every time the same thing happened: the loading screen pops up and just sits there.

Oh well. Based on what I'd experienced with the game up to that point, I don't think I'm missing a lot if I never find out what happened with the remaining two stages.

Knights of the Old Republic has several severe glitches. Multiple save files are an absolute necessity.

From the Bug/Glitch FAQS over @ gamefaqs:

My copy of Phoenix Wright crapped out the other day and I suddenly became unable to save any games.

I dunno if that's a bug or if Gamestop just knowingly sold me a broken fucking game.

Nah, it was Gamestop.
