Fucking Wal-Mart

I'm a member of the Columbia House DVD club. I forgot to decline my Director's Selection of Disturbia. Frankly, I don't even remember it being one. Anyway, I get the DVD in the mail, and decide to exchange it for a different one at Wal-Mart. I have nothing against Shia, it's just not a movie I want to own, let alone pay $25.00 for.

I arrive at Wal-Mart, get my little pink sticker at the door, and inform the customer service lady that I didn't have a recipt, but I wanted to exchange it for a different title. She said that was no problem, just go get what I want. I go back to electronics and see Disturbia is $19.96, and so is Death Proof. Cool beans. I go back to the counter with Tarintino's latest. When she scans Disturbia the price comes up $14.96 insead of $19.96.

I had to pay five bucks and change to do the exchange.

$30 to purchase Death Proof. $5 just to get rid of my copy of Disturbia. Nice.

Now, I know what I did wasn't exacly ethical. I got what wanted, I just had to pay a little extra. What concerns me is do they do this all the time? If I buy a friend a DVD for Christmas this year, will they have to pay to exchange it?

I'm not seeing the problem

I'm sorry, but your failure to effectively rip off Wal-Mart is the worst anti-Wal-Mart rant I've seen yet.
Um...couldn't you just send Disturbia back to Columbia House? I've never joined the DVD club, but the one time I legitimately joined the CD club (as opposed to the dozen or times I used a fake name in my youth) I would just return the automatic selection. It got to the point that I sent it back so often that Columbia House said "You know what, we're not even gonna send you anything unless you ask for it", which was nice.

So, uh, yeah. Enjoy your $30 Grindhouse.

Yeah. You failed at life. Please kill yourself and try again.

For emphasis.
even more impressive is that someone's actually a member of columbia house these days. I didn't even know they were still up and running.
My boss was talking about how he's a member the other week and I thought Columbia House was done.

You could have just watched Disturbia. It wasn't terrible.

I had a similar situation occur not too long ago. I bought a power drill at Wal-Mart for the low price of $60. When I got home I realized that I have no use for a power drill and couldn't for the life of me figure out why I bought it. But that wasn't Wal-Mart's fault so I decided to try and get a refund at "Struggling Old Man Hardware" which is closer to where I live. I explained what happened to the owner and asked him to refund me my $60. He threw a box of chrome washers at me. Can you believe that shit?
What a fuckin let-down! I was hoping for some "scorched-flip-flop-foot-terror" or white slavery or rampant marxism, and I get "boo hoo - they gave the me the last sale price cause i didn't have a receipt" bullshit?!?!?

Goddammit.

Yeah I think pretty much everyone who clicked on this thread is annoyed at post #1.

I can't be the only one who is ticked at Moltisanti for trying to screw over his neighborhood hardware peddler. That's just bad form.
I don't know what's dumber - Whining that Wal-Mart only let you screw them out of $15 instead of $20, or that you didn't take the 11 seconds it requires to decline a Director's Selection.
Am I the only one who's more annoyed than I otherwise would be due to the use of the purple frowny-face?
I guess it must be really that difficult to just send the movie back to Columbia House, or as Stew said, just decline the Director's Selection.

Or just get your cheap DVDs, purchase the couple high priced ones, and cancel your membership as soon as possible.

Uh Hum. I admitted my immoral act.

What I am asking is... after Christamas this year. Will people have to pay to exchange DVDs given as gifts.

Got it dudes?
People who don't rip-off the store, and actually get the DVD as a gift, could use a gift receipt that usually has a barcode on it, which when scanned will show the price it was purchased at.

Not if you legitimately return them to the store they were purchased at and you have the receipt.

I still fail to see why you feel slighted.
Columbia House?! That still exists?

They'll have a proper receipt, so no.

Also, try not to give people crappy gifts they will return. Did Jesus return any of the gifts the Prophets gave him at the very original first Christmas? Fuck no. They knew their shit.
This reminds me about how I was supposed to buy one more DVD by July 23rd in order to fulfill my membership. I never stored my payment stuff on there though, so there was nothing they could do.

Are you counting on most of your gifts being hated?
Bark....its called a gift receipt.

or get them something they like.

You do realize that by ripping Wal-Mart off your effectively ripping off their employees? Someone will have to get fired to recoup the losses. Now this may not seem like a bad thing considering it was Wal-Mart they were working at but this could be their only job and they may not be able to get another one. Just saying...
At any price, Death Proof is a rip off. Wal-Mart comes out on top. You got hosed!

Walmart didn't lose any money. The amount of credit they gave him is equivalent to how much they will sell it for.

I know that but his intention was to rip off Wal-Mart.

I've never understood ripping off companies (places like Best Buy or Wal-mart). If they're loosing money they'll fire people or cut back their hours so they don't qualify for benefits to save money. Or they'll increase the prices on items and the costumer then has to pay for it.

I used to work at a dinner theatre. One time when a performer/server was on stage a family skipped out on the bill. The company let it slide for her but it was an $180 bill. Now because of that the company lost that $180. Yeah they made a profit that night anyways but if this happened all the time they'd have to increase ticket prices or bar drink prices. Which could turn costumers away which would force the company to cut back on employees and make others work twice as hard for the same pay. Now, obviously, none of that happened but it could have.

CDs from Columbia House had a "Manufactured for Columbia House" printed on the back cover to indicate that they weren't retail copies but made for the club. I wonder if the DVDs have the same thing, and if so, Wal-Mart can't sell the copy Barkatthemoon returned.

They lost money, but not too terribly much. The period of time spent processing the return, the time spent restocking it, and the time spent selling it are all losses, miniscule though they might be. There's also the opportunity cost of paying $14.96 for a disc that usually costs $7.
well, in a way you wont be ripping off wal-mart, either they are going to re-sell it, or if the item is opened they send it back to the vender for credit.
Wal-Mart didn't lose any money. All they have to do is inform the county of the impact this DISTURBIA DVD has had on their business and they will be granted a $2.5 million tax subsidy. In the long run this DISTURBIA DVD will probably lead to Wal-Mart being able to hire 500,000 more employees for their factories in China. It's a win-win!

Spoiler: somebody's getting Disturbia.
Keep your eyes peeled. That Disturbia DVD will end up in a notorios Wal-Mart $5 bin one day.

So much trouble caused by Shia Labeouf and David Morse.

The thing is, it is the same thing at all stores. Go to Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy, where ever and if you have no recepit, you only get the best price (ie. the lowest sale price) for the DVD. If the DVD was released for $16.95 and now costs $19.95, with no receipt, you get $16.95 for the DVD - no matter how much it really cost you.

It's not just a Wal Mart thing.

Right now, I am happy with Wal Mart. I got Playmakers, the Complete Series and Once Upon a Time in the West, 2 Disc Edition in the 2 for $10 bin.

Wal-Mart stole my Arrested Development DVD's.
I used to hate Wal-Mart until last week when I found a DVD triple pack featuring Death Wish 2, 3, and 4. I already own 1 and 5, so this was incredibly convenient.
I've figured out a great way to screw over Wal-Mart:

I saw Panic Room & Enough attached to each other for a total of $14.00 - which was a great deal. The only problem was that I already have Enough so I decided to rip off the plastic covering holding both DVDs together, then I hid Enough somewhere in the store so nobody would find it and used a sticker to tape the torn plastic cover on Panic Room back together, so it didn't look ripped. I quickly proceeded towards the self-checkout and rung myself up & out, tossed Panic Room in a plastic bag and wasn't stopped by any employees - making a clean exit with the DVD I wanted.
You're joking right? That's not ripping them off! You ripped yourself off. If they were packaged together for $14 and you only bought Panic Room for $14 that means you paid double the price for it. Unless I missed something in your story or mis-read it?

The only way you would have remotely ripped them off is if you had of replaced Enough with another higher priced movie. Other then that you just lost money.
Uh.... yeah I don't get it.
Take THAT Wal-Mart!
Oh, I get it. You see he hid Enough somewhere in WalMart. It's sure to create a horrible smell, and no one will know where it's coming from. It'll take them weeks to find it.

Wait - You own Enough?

And who got screwed over?
Making that story even better is that Panic Room can be found in the $5 bin.
Or that for 20 bucks he could have gotten the 3 disc Panic Room.

When I'm assembling a group to pull off an impossible museum heist, remind me not to hire you.

Wait, people actually still subscribe to those Columbia House scams?
