Except for the fact that you're dead wrong about Supernatural.

I enjoyed the second episode, but didn't dig it as much as the pilot. Not a bad hour of TV, but not really memorable either. The hero's other friend (who lost his eyebrows in the pilot) is completely superflous and the relationship with the parents is distracting in it's unbelievability, but I still enjoyed the lead and the tone of the show and I loved Ray Wise all over again.

I'm still looking forward to next week's episode.

As good as this show is, it has NOTHING on Supernatural.

Does Ray Wise play the devil on Supernatural?

I rest my case.

I hear great things about Supernatural but every time I think "Do I really have time to devote another hour to television?" I anwser, "No, no I do not." Sure, I'm watching Chuck, Journeyman, Reaper, Pushing Daisies, and Dirty Sexy Money, but I've already knocked out Bionic Woman and some of these shows will either go sour or they'll get the ax from low ratings. I imagine maybe one or two will be left standing.

In the meantime, I'll wait for Supernatural to live out its life and then I'll watch it. It also has to get in line behind The Wire.
In my opinion, Supernatural could knock out any of those shows out of a regular lineup.

The yellowed Eyed Demon in Supernatural is about 1000 times cooler than Ray Wise as the devil... I've got to say, I'm not feeling anything from Wise's performance here. Everyone loves Ray Wise, but is it really that incredibly special of a performance?
This week's ep was pretty good(except for the continuity issues)and I liked see Mark Rolston(The Shawshank Redemption)as the electricity dude.

So, who's the awesome person who can get me a (preferably wallpaper sized, although smaller is cool) picture of Ray Wise giving me a thumbs-up while feeding a squirrel? 'Cause that was awesome. Like, super awesome rad.

That was actually funnier then The Office.

Against my better judgement, I really like Sock.

Welcome to the club. He was mildly funny in Invasion, but here he's in full auto-mode.
Supernatural has to be tricking people into liking it with some sort of subliminal messages. I watched half a season of that tripe and am saddened I can never get that time back.

Last night's episode was pretty great. Reaper feels very similar to season one of Buffy to me. I don't know if it'll ever turn into a mind blowing epic like that show did, but time will tell I suppose.

Here you go. (cloned out the CW logo)

I had to stretch it slightly - here's the original.

REAPER is better than Smallville. MUCH better.

Sock is growing on me. I watched last week's and last night's relatively back to back, and I thought that the third episode was much stronger than the second -- and yes, that Ray Wise moment at the end was awesome.

Also, Kurtwood Smith as God would be amazing.
Just saw the last episode and it was good. But doesn't Sam have the ability to move things with his mind or did they scrap that? Because one would think you would use them when battling an evil magician from hell.
it´s getting reeaaaally repetitive, it needs to move forward with the story and start some multi episode arcs (like the contract)
If this show is going to work, they need to create an interesting mythology and fast. So far it's been four damn near identical episodes. There are some very good things about the show. The lead actor is all right, and Sock and Ray Wise are doing their absolute damndest to make something of their shitty obvious dialogue. The basic concept of the show has potential, and the look and tone of the show is kind of unique. But repetitive is right. Only four episodes in and we've already got a clearly defined pattern. The first fifteen minutes involve getting the new vessel, and NOT opening it for some contrived reason. Then an initial meeting with the escaped soul, none of whom register as actual characters, and certainly not as villains. Then a second successful battle with the soul. Along the way there's some forced wackiness on the job, a couple jokes at the boss's expense, and goofball romance non-starts. Honestly, the show feels like they are vamping to reach one hour. Four weeks in, and they seem to have run out of ideas.

I'll give it another couple weeks, though I'm not sure why. It better come up with a good story arc or two, because I think it requires a major plotline to succeed. And give Ray Wise better lines!

I believe that the powers change in accordance to the bounty. He had telekinesis in the pilot. And the ability to make things disappear in the one with the evil magician. I forget what it was with the electricity guy.
Well see I thought of that but it wouldn't work out. In the first episode he had telekinesis and used it in the final battle. The rest of the powers Sam's had were never used for the final battle. They were just there to give him clues as to who the soul was he was about to face off against. The telekenisis was not linked to the fireman demon whatsoever it was just anability that was given to him to help him. It was implied it came with the whole package and that it was his to keep.
Why do they manifest one at a time then? Either way it's really contrived.

And he used the disappearing trick on the bird in the final battle.
Well like I said it would make sense but usually the power was directly related to the monster. The telekenesis had nothing to do with the fireman demon but he did use it against him. All his other powers so far have been more of a nuisance. The thing with bugs didn't help him at all and neither did his static electricity power. They were linked to the demon but he didn't use them. Truthfully I don't think the disappearing power had anything to do with Sam but more with the vessel itself.
Perhaps the power is simply a side-effect of the vessel. The dirt devil is similar to the TK. The bird is common in disappearing acts. The toaster was kind of like a bug zapper.

He may have no actual powers at all and it is simply bleedover from the vessels.
I like the show, but I think I want it to get past the point where they retooled it. As clearly at some point they had a bunch of fotage shot and have been lazy about it.

Well that could be true but what im really guessing is that it was something intially thought of in the pilot and for whatever reason they decided to scrap which I think is a shame because I actually liked that he had some sort of ability to fight back. When I was watching the magician come at him with the sword all I was thinking was that yeah I understand that this is supposed to be funny but he has faced 3 of these things so far and he has telekenetic powers it would be nice if he did SOMETHING.

Also the vessel is starting to get on my nerves. It just seems so easy to catch the demons. I mean you just activate the thing and it simply sucks the demon up and.........thats it. I get that they have to make the Demons hard for Sam to catch(by making him a bumbling idiot) for comedys sake but the fact is he could just sneak up behind him and do it. I know some people never liked Brimstone but at least in that show you had to take both their eyes out which seems pretty difficult.

However after having said all that I do think the show is funny and I do like the dramatic bits that they've thrown in. Brings a decent bit of realism and seriousness to a show that needs it.
So it kinda looks like after last night this show is going to start to go somewhere. Sam's dad is no mere mortal, methinks.
Yeah the bit with Sam's dad throwing a page into the fire was interesting. And it seemed the Devil had a real grudge against Sam's dad.
Was that the Chief from BSG playing a lame role as the devils Messenger ????

first Bionic Woman, now this... his pedigree is going down!

The green ooze and the sewers made me think they were going to hunt down a teenage mutant ninja turtle...now THAT would have been awesome!
but no... we got FLUBBER instead.

and yes, that last scene was great
they better build on that, QUICK!
The thing is that it changes things substantially if the dad knows more than he's saying. At first it seemed like an accident where the parents were just idiots. Now, it looks like the dad should have known what he was getting into. It's nice that they're building an arc with a place to go.

Now, they just need to do the same with the girl. It's still not really going anywhere.
Yeah it would be great if Sam's girlfriend turned out to know alot more about hell then shes saying. At least then it would give her something to do rather then get mad at Sam.

Anyway next week looks promising and theres some Patton Oswalt. Really funny stand up but ususally not that great when it comes to tv shows. Although this whole thing seems to be right in his wheelhouse.
I'm getting really bored with this show.

Other than Wise, what does it have going for it other than a painfully formulaic plot (I know I used to rag on House for the same thing, but that had Hugh Laurie and Wise, as great as he is, is no Hugh Laurie; he's also not the star)?
Agreed in every aspect, although it appears as though they're finally starting to arc this story a little bit. At the moment, however, I keep getting a vague 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo vibe (sans Vincent Price's disembodied head... so far). I'll keep tivo'ing as long as Wise and Sock entertain me, though.

At this point, its probably safe to say that the only standout show of this fall season is Pushing Daisies, and thats rather disappointing, especially with how strong the summer season was. Mad Men, Flight of the Conchords, and Damages make this fall season look weak.

Reaper, it is a sad state of affairs when your Halloween promo featuring Ray Wise dancing to "The Most Wonderful Time of The Year" is funnier than the show itself.
If this show just had the Devil and Sock it would be awesome. Sock & The Devil coming next season.
Yeah my friend called me tonight and said "Hey I think that show Reaper si going to be on in like 5 minutes, new episode." And then I replied "Oh I better go.......ohh fuck it". The show really isn't that good, not even worth recording anymore. It's not funny enough to be a comedy and it's too silly to be action/horror. Im tired of all the "heroes" being bumbling idiots and....whatever. The only saving grace for this show is Ray Wise but it isn't enough. I tried with this show I really did. I wanted it to be the next Buffy, Dead Like Me(a far superior show that succeeds as a comedy/drama) and brimstone(again darkly funny without being stupid, even has the same fucking premise) but it jsut isn't those and it's time let this show go. Hopefully Supernatural sticks around, it runs circles around this show.
I know that this show's future is up in the air, but I'm still a fan. I think the cast is good and the program works better as a comedy then as an action or horror series.

If anyone is still interested, a new episode airs tonight and expect to see Michael Ian Black and Ken Marino from The State.
Definitely works as a comedy. I got a good laugh when they used the paintball guns like terrorists use AKs. And anytime Ray Wise is on is great...
You know, in ways the bounty hunter aspect is getting old. I think it might be better, as previously mentioned that it's its strength, as just a comedy.

Hell, just have these three morons be the only guys that know that demons walk among us. They tried to tell people but nobody listens to them, and so now they just don't care.

Occasionally they have to kick some demon butt, but mostly its about their hijinks.
The show really should be a half-hour. The padding kills it.
People actually thought this was better than Supernatural in this thread. My god.
Please. Everyone knows you're a shill for Supernatural.
I see no motivation for me to be a shill...

;D
The show definitely needs some kind of mythology or twist to fall back on.
Well there seems to be some twist with the contract, and why the dad was destroying it so Sam couldnt read it. Though its a wonder if that will get resolved.
I think the show is more concerned with making the audience try to guess whether Sam's girlfriend is normal or the spawn of Satan.
