1234-Who sings this song?

Thread Starter
I admit it ain't great but I can't get the song that plays witht he IPOD commercial out of my head.

Who sings this song? And can I get it for free?
The group is named Feist
A couple bars of a Feist tune was also used as the jingle for the main Toronto Film Fest bumper this year. It's a credit to the band that after hearing it a half dozen times a day I still like the song and don't want the band to be The Exploding Hearts 2007.

EDIT: I accidentally wrote 'The Exploding Hearsts' the first time; now I have a good name for Rock Band, so I can use my BioShock-influenced one for GH3.

That video is awesome.

That it is--it's cool to see some old-fashioned ingenuity on display in music videos for once.

And Leslie Feist is adorable. The IPod commercial led me to check out some more of her stuff--it's feel good music in the best way.

I wasn't crazy about Let It Die, but this latest album is the tits. Let me also recommend Broken Social Scene, who she plays with from time to time. Also Apostle of Hustle's latest is rather good too.

A particular favorite. A little different than the other stuff of hers I've heard... and different than the version on the album.

I'm kinda the reverse (though the new disc is growing on me fast). What didn't you dig about Let it Die?
I should probably give it another go round, but Let It Die felt a little too sleepy time tea, whereas the new one has a little more cock in it.

I'm the same as Cogs, I loved Let it Die way more than the new one, though about half of the new LP has grown on me. Her cover of "Inside & Out" from Open Season (the stripped down version) is a regular on my playlist.
I was sure they did some kind of editing when the dancers fall out from behind her at the beginning of the song, but I guess not. That was pretty impressive.

Yeah, I agree. Let It Die was a little more "indie rock Norah Jones." Aside from "Inside & Out" and a couple others, it stays a little too sedate. The new one is nicely varied, and the songs are far more memorable.

"Sea Lion Woman" is a pretty meaty slice of cock. "Almost Crimes" is my favorite flavor of Feist, though, without a doubt. Watching her whip a wired microphone around with those hips a'flailin' is just so, so right.

What? Is this something the kids are saying now? Durnit, I had just gotten used to "sick" with a positive connotation.

Also -

I think I'm going to put that on a t-shirt.

You should hear what I hear from the neighborhood kids these days. Cock-riffic this, Shaftacular that, Cock-wavingly good the-other... If Lucas had changed the line in Phantom Menace to "That's so Cock, Annie!", maybe the kids would have related more to little Anakin's struggle.
LD, I'll buy that t-shirt and wear it to every show I go to in which a female musician performs.
Did I mention I'm going to see Rilo Kiley? Because, I mentioned that.
Shaftacular is now a part of my vocabulary. Thank you, Minsky.
But is it a meaty slice of shaftacular, Soul?
It's a meaty slice of cockriffic, shaftacular, cock wavingly good cock.

Additional footnote, Feist was given this song by another young lady who goes by the stage name New Buffalo. I heard an interview with Feist on XM where she told the story. The original version was much slower, and sadder, but she jazzed it up a bit, and then sold the ultimate version to Apple. The end.

Thanks, New Buffalo!

So what you're saying is that you like the cock. A lot.

Who doesn't?

That Gist guy. I hear he likes to cut them up.

I came for the beefy, veiny, throbbing riffage of BSS but stayed for the Feist.

You're weird.

Seriously, these should be marketed to those female musicians, themselves. Start with Jenny Lewis, Feist, Neko Case, Chan Marshal, etc., but then branch out and maybe hit up Lydia Lunch and Diamanda Galas. I think the ultimate would be getting someone playing Brunnhilde in Wagner's Ring cycle to wear it through an entire performance.

A woman goes by the stage name New Buffalo?

Yes. Her real name is Sally.

Also, I never though I'd be more down with Feist than Metric or Emily Haines, but I haven't trucked with Emily (and co.)'s latest stuff at all. Her singsonging began to bore me. Who knew?

Are we playing the "Female Musicians with Stage Names" game?

Yes, Peaches.

Or should that be:

Yes.

Peaches.

GRAMMAR JOKES!~

If we continue with this line of thought we may want to start another thread....
Why?
Somewhat relatedly - I remember when P.J. Harvey started out, the press and Harvey, herself, always made clear the difference between P.J. Harvey, the three-piece band, and Polly Jean Harvey, the frontwoman. Then, as the scope of her albums expanded beyond that three-piece lineup, that distinction just seemed to fade.

She should release an album under the name "Polly Jean Harvey" and proclaim it her solo debut, as if all releases up until then were band efforts with a constantly shifting lineup.
I picked up the latest from Miss Feist today during my lunch break and listened to it on the way home. I think I'm forever a Feist fan.

It worked for Alice Cooper. Sorta.

Usually both - "it's got a good beat, the frontwoman is hawt, you can spank to it!"
This thread is Briss!

Was that a racist joke? I just don't even know any more.
