Any Sports Comedians Out There?

Hello fellow Chewers. I've been a visitor to this site for years, as it was one of the few websites we could access from the computers at the movie theater I used to work at, but I've never signed up on the forums before. Hopefully I'm not eaten alive for my first post being something that could easily be construed as spam.

That being said, I've recently started a site called The Sports Comedian, at SportsComedian.com. I know, it's a bit of a lame name, but I think it gets the job done. What I'm trying to do with the site is make it a CHUD-like page for sports instead of movies. With daily headlines and features with comedic commentary in an easy to use blog format.

But, I'm having a hard time coming up with enough daily content, and coming up with enough content that accomplishes the site's goal of being funny. So, I'm looking for anyone interested in writing for the site. I'd like 2 or 3 more people to help get more stuff up there. It's a bit of a tough job, as coming up with funny sports commentary is a lot more challenging than with other news stories, as can be evidenced by my many failures on the main page.

But, if you'd like to give this project a shot with me, I just need a writing sample on something sportsy. It can be a news headline, a column, or a feature. Hopefully more content, more writers, and better quality jokes can actually find an audience with the web-browsing public. Although it seems that sports fans are a pretty tough audience. Either PM it to me here or e-mail to tim@sportscomedian.com.

Oh yes, this would be unpaid. I make maybe 3 cents a week from the site due to my mother clicking on my banner ad. But, if you'd like in on that, something can be arranged. You have to generate 100 dollars to get a check from Google advertising, and I'm on pace for a check in the year 2134, so I can have some money sent to your great grand kids. :-)

So if you know anyone else who may be interested, please forward them to SportsComedian.com or this thread. I'm only gonna post this on this section of the forum, as I don't think it goes anywhere else, and I don't wanna get all spammy. So send to any other forum dwellers who might not check the sports section, but be good writers with some sports knowledge.

Thanks for everyone's time. If anyone has questions, comments, or criticism, feel free to post them here.

Having your first post on the site be an advertisement to another site is not a good way to make a first impression. Go away.

Yeah, I figured I'd be flamed out of here. But thought I'd give it a go anyway, lots of funny writers on here.

I love that after just 2 posts, your reputation comment is that you're "kind of a pile of shit". Ouch.

Haha, yeah, I guess I deserve that piece of shit rating for this. But in my defense, I'm not saying go check out my site, I'm just trying to find writers for it. I suppose it's a thin line between the two though. Was hoping people would actually consider my offer instead of scold me for bad message board etiquette, but oh well. This is the last I shall speak of it. Sorry everybody.

There is a forum for shameless links and self promotion which would be the ideal place for something like this. This probably wouldn't have been so poorly received if you existed at all prior to posting your site but most Chewers are pretty cranky about anything that smells like a shill anyhow.

Nick Bakay is probably looking for work.

Isn't there already a site like this? It's called Page 2.

Eh, Page 2 has some funny bits like the cartoon and AM Jump sections. But it's mostly a collection of editorials by writers who they can't fit on the main page. Some are humorous, but most don't even try to be funny.

Gregg Easterbrook and DJ Gallo are good for a laugh, but aside from that there isn't much.

That is a good site, but it's like the Onion's sport site with long fake comedic stories. I was looking to make one that provides actual sports news and funny commentary on real issues. Their headline on Sean Payton saying he used his entire team as decoys is funny, but not an actual piece of sports news.

I was hoping to do a site like this one, where they do a headline and then some jokes or commentary on it. So you can get real sports news, but in a fresh and amusing way. Like going here you can get all the movie info you need, and also be amused while doing it. If you go to The Onion for movie stuff, it will sometimes be funnier, but won't give you actual info.

I guess there isn't much demand for my idea, just thought I'd toss it out there. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
