How does one create a "most violent films" list and not put Hard Boiled on there? I submit to you that it's impossible, as HB has to have one of the highest on-screen bodycounts ever. We come to the conclusion that what is presented by EW is in fact *not* a "most violent films" list, but something much, much lamer.

SAW is as violent as MARY POPPINS. I have no idea how it got its undeserved "extreme" reputation. Fuck that movie.

The Bourne Ultimatum is violent. Hot Fuzz is violent and gory (weird example, I know, but it's what came to mind because of THAT death). Saw is just plain gory.

And Se7en is a movie of insinuations and fallout more than violence. I dunno what the fuck it's going on that list.
And there's physical violence (Angel Heart) and emotional violence (Closer).

I had a letter printed in EW. It was in the Primary Colors cover issue. I was 14. It was regarding a Buffy the Vampire Slayer article in a previous issue.

I'm sorry.

No, at least not compared to how gay I feel while I am being anally penetrated by my neighbor Greg.

I can only assume they're trying to use movies that have violence written into the subtext, not just a lot of violent scenes. But even if that's the case it fails miserably. No Straw Dogs. No Scarface. No Goodfellas or Raging Bull. No Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Such a wierd, arbitrary list.

Seems more like "Top 10 Movies That Had That One Really Disturbing Scene"

No?

Then Pan's is indeed a more violent film. In fact the brutality and scope of the violence in Pan's probably makes it one of the few deserving entries on the list.
Um.....okay? Obviously Pan's Labyrinth is more violent than Labyrinth; that was actually hyperbole used to make the point (that I still stand by) that Pan's Labyrinth doesn't belong anywhere on or near a list of the 15 most violent movies ever. In fact, I think its inclusion is simply the editor's way of saying "hey, this list is legit 'cause it's got some cool stuff on it."

In any event, I think we all agree that this list is pure shit.

Does anyone remember when Grindhouse came out and they made a list of like "25 Most Badass Guy Movies of All Time"? That list was a joke. I like El Topo and all, but I'm not entirely sure I'd call it badass. And I never really saw it as much of a "guy" movie, or even much of a "human being" movie for that matter.

Also, i'd try to make a suggestion for this list, but it's pretty much pointless. Though it seems like Riki-Oh gets overlooked when it comes to discussing hyper-gory movies. Any movie that has a fist punching another fist into oblivion is A-OK in my book.

Also, in the Labyrinth vs. Pan's Labyrinth debate, Del Toro's film doesn't have anything half as aggressively disturbing as David Bowie's ever-present man-bulge.
