I need a new cd, jerks. - Page 2

A Place To Bury Strangers self-titled debut is nice and noisy and distorted and fun.

If you are into quiet folk-ish stuff, Marissa Nadler has a beautiful voice and she's a strong songwriter. Her new album just came out - it's called Songs III: Bird on the Water. It's good stuff.

As embarrassing as it is to admit that I bought an album because I couldn't get a new ipod commercial out of my head, I would be remiss if I didn't admit that I'm really enjoying the variety and writing on Feist's new album.

And if you've been missing the Smashing Pumpkins since, oh, 1998ish, then take Chris Miller's Silversun Pickups recommendation.

Yikes. People should be lined up to get tickets for him.

I'd say One Cell in the Sea by A Fine Frenzy. The most beautiful music I've heard all year. That girl's got an absolutely unbelievable voice.

If you like the sound of National Lights, can I pimp out Final Fantasy. It's the solo project of Owen Pallett (one of the Arcade Fire violinists). Really quirky, 60s sounding, violin led songs.

You can find some of his stuff here

I have her song Rangers, and I REALLY like it. I'm a little worried it'll end up being too...Easy Listening or something. I'll check it out.

Fantastic, I didn't know anyone else was a fan.

I had the pleasure of seeing him Live last year, remarkable performer. Just playing on his own, with a loop box, he managed to produce a set which was as crisp and clear as his studio work.

Yeah, that's the track that sticks out for me, too. I like the rest of the album, but that song's the big keeper.

Sounds like I need to seek out the National Lights and the Office.

I've had that new Iron & Wine album since early summer, I think, and it didn't really make much of an impression on me. I'll have to give it another try sometime.

Mrs. H bought it and it took me a while to get into it but now I love it. It's just simple folk but there's something about it.

The disc could basically be titled "Iron and Wine/Calexico Vol. 2", but frankly, that's what I was looking for. The sound is a little more lush, which is reminiscent of Woman King, but I think it just plain works.

The National Lights's album really is outstanding, and those Fratellis have some really catchy songs. I've had Chelsea Dagger playing in my head for the last 2 days.

Is it wrong that the lyrics on The National Lights album don't creep me out at all? I think it's because I don't believe they're sincere or something. Nonetheless, I love this CD.

Re: A Fine Frenzy

If anyone is interested in it (I haven't listened yet), it's available on iTunes Plus (no DRM) for $5.99. I just picked it up.
