You'd actually want the 'elite' members of the community to split away from the public boards?

What would that actually do, other than lower the standard of discourse on the boards and make the community even shallower.

I agree with everything in DaveB's last post. There's a big difference between starting a thread with "I'm exploding with anticipation!" and submitting those kinds of comments to a discussion that is already in progress. Now, if "That movie just smiled at me" is the extent of your input for every post that you make, people are going to get annoyed. More often than not, you need to elaborate a bit if you want to be taken seriously. If this is exactly the point that Dellamorte was trying to make, then I agree. My initial impression was that he was trying to be an elitist asshole, but who knows. Still, I do know that, based on his tone, he really needs to lighten up. As do a few other people around here.

Spike, you and Ripoll alone provide more intelligent and interesting discussion to these boards than every one-liner, gif posting smacked ass I'm talking about. And they know it, and are getting bitchy. Do a few "find all posts by____" searches.

Zooey, do they sell that shit at Costco?

And since someone brought Andre back into it, I wanna say again his initial post was reasonable, except for the priority with which he called out THOSE particular useless posts.

Why is it weirder to get annoyed by a multitude of 'I can't wait to see this film' posts than it is to get annoyed by one condescending post? This thread seems WAY easier to ignore than a minefield of vapid posts scattered throughout other threads. Why do you guys get so upset about this stuff?

In your ideal situation you'd want Slater, Dellamorte, Devin, Milette and any other 'horribly bastardish bullies' to go to a private section of the forum. And of course people like DaveB, Alex Rivellio, and Beaks would be moved there as well.

Do you really think there'd be anyone to fill in for the sudden knowledge vacuum that would create?

Yes, but if we did set up a Star Chamber like system again. You can guarantee they'd be a part of it too. Actually asking for the private boards to be reinstated is madness, because all it would do is take away talent from the regular forums.
