Fucking amazing. I can't believe it's only 9:07 PM.

Josh Beckett...wow.

Jose Mota...wow. What the FUCK are you talking about???

Go Notthecubs Go!!!!!!
An absolute gem by Beckett today. He just totally dominated the Angels. Four hits, no walks, 8 K's, and a complete game shut-out. Bravo, Josh. Game 1 goes to Boston. GO SOX GO!
After watching Beckett shut down the Cubs in the NLCS back when he played for the Marlins, I almost want the Cubs to make it to the World Series so he can do it again.

Nope, actually a Cardinals fan. But I was living in Chicago during the whole Bartman saga. That cracked me up.

You'd also have to make sure to sign Santana to an extension, otherwise it would be a colossal waste.

I've had many dreams about Santana in a Red Sox uniform, but the Sox would have to offer Ellsbury and Buchholz, plus Coco, plus ??? to get him. A staff with him on it (especially when you keep him off of the Yanks roster) is a wet-dream, but I like how the Sox are actually buidling from within, and I'd hate to trade away so much youth.

Still, you have to go after Santana if he hits the market. I'm curious as to what people are going to offer and to see what the Twins will want for him.
My problem with arguments like this is, sure, the Twins would obviously be in a position to command a lot in return, but Santana also only has one season left under contract, which severely hampers the Twins bargaining position. The deal would basically have to be little more than Jose Reyes (signed through 2010 for an absurdly fair amount, with a club option in 2011) + loose change for it to be even.

Either way, though, I don't see a deal involving any combination of Beltran + prospects as a positive for the Mets. All they'd be doing is fixing one problem while creating another, especially when one of the "prospects" is Lastings Milledge. You'd basically be trading two everyday starters for the chance at locking up an ace longterm with an elbow that is, at the very least, somewhat troubling.

While I understand how big a pitcher like Santana is, Carlos Beltran is still one of, if not the, best center fielders in all of MLB, and with the Mets looking to hand right field over to Lastings Milledge in '08, I'd rather not trade 2/3 of the outfield (plus the Mets top two pitching prospects) for a starting pitcher.

Put another way, would you be comfortable trading David Ortiz, Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Bucholz for a single season of Johan Santana?

Of course not. I wouldn't do that even with a guaranteed extension. However, I would imagine it would take Ellsbury and Buchholz for the Twins to be interested.

With today's market, who knows what the Twins can/will get. It's like ARod possibly opting out. We can't begin to imagine what the numbers are going to be like for that. Hell, even for Mike Lowell. A 3B hitting the market after the year he had?
Theo better do everything in his power to keep Mike Lowell. 2007 Red Sox MVP, no doubt.

Great job by Brandon Webb today. Keep on winning, D-Backs! I want to be at the World Series this year!

Holy Shit...the Rockies are a game away from the NLCS. Here's hoping they can get it done this weekend.
Wang doesn't have it. Get Joba up.
No way are they bringing Joba in this early. Wang's going to have to eat this one.
Dear Playoffs,

Nice to know ya. See you in another 14 years.

xoxo,

Do the Rockies even remember how to lose anymore?

Boy I hope so. If AZ wins the NLDS, they will have some trouble again Colorado.
Wong + Road = Suck.

It's annoying. Didn't expect to win last night anyway, but come on now.
Holy Christmas, that was painful. Like Sonic I didn't expect a win last night from Wong on the road. I did, however, expect the Yanks to show up at the Jake.

And I only want to see Joba in a tie game or a save situation.

Christ I hate these 5 game series.
Posada striking out after they walked Rodriguez was a huge letdown. Down by one, one out, bases loaded. That was the at-bat of the game.

And my Joba request was ,like, 4 batters into the game, and obviously facetious.

Posada's at-bat seemed like a turning point, you're right. And in retrospect, yeah, I should have realized that with the timing of your post about Joba that it wasn't serious.

If Cleveland can't solve their insect infestation problem they should be forced to forfeit the series.
Talk about home-field advantage. Joba getting eaten up, literally.
My new favorite team: The Cleveland Insects.

The wild pitches are absolutely related to the bug repellent making his hand sticky.
Joba's neck flesh must be delicious.

Joba made it a point to keep his pitching hand away when he was being sprayed.

ETA: The bugs are definitely affecting his pitches, but his hand isn't sticky from the spray. That's what I meant.

Thank god...nothing more anticlimactic than a walked in winning run.

It always amused me when people would ask why nobody would walk David Ortiz in a big spot. Manny Ramirez is easily one of the top five RHB of this generation*, if not the best.

*Frank Thomas, Vladimir Guerrero, Albert Pujols and Mike Piazza would be the rest in my book.

because the thought of a DBack/Rockies is so thrilling.

Atleast ND is gonna get crushed by USC today. On ABC at night no less.

It is thrilling, what with the long prestigious histories of those clubs that dates back almost tens of years.

Because somehow the bugs know to only bother Yankees players.
Manny, we've missed you.

Joba got his first taste of the baseball gods' twisted sense of humor last night. Insanity.
Wow. How can watching a game played by millionaires make me feel so sad?

At least I'm not a Cubs fan.
The Colorado Rockies get to play for the NL Pennant....how awesome is that.
Before the final out of that game, they showed graphic that said only three teams hadn't won a playoff series in their existence. The Rockies, the Devil Rays and the Rangers.

Rockies win.

That's embarrassing.

Honestly, the Phillies were tapped and the Rockies are simply playing out of their minds right now, I wouldn't go as far as embarrassing, but getting swept is pretty harsh.
Gagne certainly deserves to be on the mound for the celebration. He has earned it.

I wish I could've been there when, dissapointed by the state of Major League Baseball, you went to go watch a football game that didn't exist.
Congratulations to the Red Sox for making the Angels look like little leaguers. The Yankee game looks very interesting with the quote from Steinbrenner saying that Torre will likely be gone if they lose. I wonder if they would be confident in giving the job to Mattingly so soon.

Or Joe Giradi.

Surprised they trusted him with a 9 run lead. He still gave up a run.

And now we have to wait till Thursday(5 days) till the NLCS. If the Indians sweep It'll be too long between games.
Ladies and gentlemen, Roger Clemens.
His career could possibly end after pitching only 2 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs, with a hamstring injury. Ah who am I kidding? He'll be back next year, June-ish.
3 down, 8 to go!

Make it by the trade deadline.

I think I must clarify. Being a Ranger fan, they're now stuck solely with the fucking Devil Rays in an embarrassing stat.

Eh, you get used to the disappointment eventually.

That said, this elimination didn't hurt nearly as much as '03.
