So in the most recent Great Argument thread, I posted this:

Well, guess who got hit by a bus on the way home from work today.

Yep.

I was in my car when it happened, don't get excited.

It was a school bus who was running a yellow/red light. No kids on board, everyone involved is okay, and the bus driver got the ticket, so it wasn't all bad, but that's two hours of my life I would have rather spent differently.

Glad you're ok, Dickson.

If I ever get hit by a bus and die, I'm going to haunt the living shit out of this place. We're talking dozens upon dozens of rep threads posted from the other side.
Glad to hear ya made it man. Now you gotta prepare your knowing smile and response for the day sometime in the distant future when someone comments that you couldn't hit the broad side of a bus in regards to something.

Ditto.

No out-of-body experiences? Are you sure you're not "Swayze"d and actually posting from the great "beyond"?

As someone who has been permanently scarred by a vehicular accident I'm glad you're o.k. With that said, ahem, Bwahahahahahahaha. Seriously, how often does someone joke about someone else getting hit by a bus, then proceed to get hit by a fucking bus. If you were hurt I would not laugh at all, but damn this is funny.

A shill for the other side? Sweet-tastic!

And I'm glad you're alright, but daaaaaaaamn, I can't help but laugh. For a second though, I thought Bruce Wayne had gotten hit by a bus. But it's okay, cuz it's only Dickson.

Is the car alright??

But seriously, glad to hear you didn't get hurt.
Man, I've been meaning to get hit by a bus. I should do that.
I'd say that I've been meaning to see Dickson get hit by a bus, but that would be exactly the kind of post-padding that no one is interested in hearing.

Glad you are OK. Your vehicle wasn't totalled, was it?

It's not totaled, although it's paid for, so it wouldn't have been hugely horrible if it had been. Still, it's not really driveable -- no light or signal on the front driver's side and the bumper pushed in pretty good. Good enough to get me from the accident site home, but I wouldn't push it for much else.
This story made me want to tell you I hope you're doing okay.

Are you Jim Fixx?

Yield to the bus driver, bus driver man.

Oh, and the best part was that about half an hour after I got home, the trooper who did the accident report showed up at my apartment to tell me that in fact the timing on the signal was faulty -- it was giving the left turn lane a green turn arrow, then cycling to red while vehicles were still in the intersection and the oncoming traffic was getting a green. So the bus driver wasn't at fault, it was the signal.
So government's going to pay for the damages? Sweet. Expect the payout shortly before death.

That's bad news for a settlement...

Glad to hear you're doing okay.

Okay, that scares me a little. I don't think my car would protect me from a bus collision.
Yikes! Jesus, Dickson, I'm glad you're okay.

(See Mia Farrow's face in my avatar? That was me reading you'd been hit by a bus. Don't do that anymore).
Well you can now safely say, "I was hit by a bus."

Use it wisely.
Glad you're okay. You have no idea how much it means to me to "know" a Dick Dickson.

And no, I don't give a fuck if it isn't your real name.
Glad to hear that you're ok.

RD & those kids avoided the Reaper by some fluke today. Totally expect death to come calling and collect what he's owed.

Don't bathe with any appliances... for atleast a week.
What intersection was it? I'd like to avoid it like the plague. Glad to hear you're fine.

Way back in high school (over 10 years ago!), I was riding to school and happened to end up driving behind a friend of mine right outside of the school. We take off from the light, and after we pass the intersection, he makes an immediate left turn (there was no left turn there - he would've ended up on the football field) into traffic coming the other way. Before he even has a chance to get into an oncoming lane, he broadsides the short bus.

Turns out he dropped a cigarette in his lap, panicked trying to put it out, and yanked the wheel hard to the left. Best part was all of the kids in the short bus were literally calling him a retard & idiot. My brother & I were kinda shocked by the sudden crash, but couldn't stop laughing after we heard the kids in the bus. It's still something that we laugh about to this day...

It was Conroy-Windermere and Hutchison-Marley (and yes, there are tons of these stupid double-named roads around here).

Here's the real kicker -- I was initially supposed to close yesterday, which would have had me out of work around 8 or so, but I switched with someone so they could go to an interview in the morning. So if not for that, I wouldn't have even been on the road at that time. Plus, I was going home a different way in order to swing by Best Buy to get the new Springsteen CD.

So I'm suing my co-worker and Bruce.
Hey, it's not like Springsteen doesn't have millions that he can part with. It's the least he can do.

Damn, State Farm rocks. Got a call this morning from the adjuster giving me repair shops and car rental locations in my area, breezed through Hertz in about 20 minutes, and the repair shop told me they'd have a tow company call me and got a call from them five minutes later. I'm mobile and my car should be in the shop today. All in the span of about four hours.

I, for one, am glad you live.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone, both here and in rep.

The tow guy just came and got the car, and I'm just floored by how pleasant and professional everyone has been. I guess we're so condition to be used to lousy service that it's sadly surprising when we get treated well.

Excellent news! My experience with tow drivers and Orlando traffic in general was almost entirely negative, so you are charmed. Glad it worked out.

You were charmed, if you weren't the bus would have hit your drivers side door at 88 mph and killed you in a fiery, slow roasted death that would oddly smell like Folgers.

Remember, it could have been worse.

If you're going to die, it might as well be with the pleasant, early morning smell of fresh coffee.

Well, it is the best part of waking in up, so it couldn't be that bad at your final sleep.
