Are you funny? - Page 5

a lowly chewer with a cause: neg rep you outta here

instead of picking a silly fight I will address the point of this thread, but to SM: my load can hit you, yours can't even scratch me.

As Slater pointed it's really hard to find a funny girl. The last one I met was constantly "over-dubbing" her conversation like Larry David. That was weird. As some chewers mentioned I like riffing a conversation and I usually change the let's say approach. Yes it's all about the timing and I don't consider myself funny. And I think it's all about evaluating the audience. Sometimes it works just fine.

I think back to my high school lunchroom days, and I realize that there was never any actual conversation going on: It was just the bunch of us trying to make each other laugh, each person trying to think up something clever and witty, or sometimes just downright gross, and then the next person would try to top them. Usually there would be one or two who would take it too far, or kill the joke dead.

As for me, I usually consider myself witty, though saying that makes me feel uncomfortable and makes me feel like I should be busting out vaudeville routines.
Usually I am used to being the smart ass in the room, so much so that I have to reign myself in. But recently, I've met this girl who puts me to shame; everything out of her mouth is a wise ass comment, and I'm left in awe, fumbling to think up a witty retort, but alas I find myself lacking. I'm seeing her again tonight, and I'm trying to mentally prepare myself to match her level of wit. I live a very odd life.

This is a good thread. I shall return here.

Also, and this is probably a well known fact around here judging by all his green bars, I consider Brad Millette hilarious. His comment about Spike being the "dullest mother fucker in here" (no offense Spike, a burn's a burn, and I'm an equal opportunity snickerer) had me downright guffawing.

I can make people laugh, but I'd hate to do it for a living.

In casual conversation, I have a compulsion to distill my impressions into pithy comments, which often garner chuckles. When I actually try to set up a joke, it usually bombs because I'm too deadpan. There may be an age factor since I'm older than most of the folks at work.

I'm fascinated by stories of comedy professionals who can identify humor without actually laughing at it, who just say "That's very funny" and move on.

Most of my CHUD rep is due to Diva's "My Ass" thread. Make of that what you will.
