Master Pancake Theatre is gonna do Home Alone for December, starting on the 7th and going all the way to the 29th. They're gonna do it at the Alamo Ritz.

Anybody interested?

Precisely one month away from the A&M Game.

From what I can tell, it's now playing at the Alamo Village which is on W. Anderson Lane right off of 183 in N Austin.

Let's try and get a solid roster of Chewer attendees for this squared away, as well as votes for what precisely to do afterwards.

Also, I still have two rooms available at the Doubletree Club (See earlier post for link) night of the 23rd, at $79 per room. Two beds in each room, so if anybody wants to shack up and save some cash, be my guest. Greg Clark, I need you to PM me about how exactly you want to handle the room at the Homewood. Also, if anybody wants to try and snag Greg's pullout couch, contact him and see if he's up for it. The one in my room is open to another MALE Chewer for $20 or a pitcher of beer at the Alamo...your choice. I'm cancelling the Doubletree Club rooms by the 16th of November if nobody speaks up for them.
Looks like the A&M game is going to be a no-go for me. Will try and make plans for Sweeney Todd or some other such insane showing.
Sadly I won't be there since I will be on this production through November. But, I hope to make it after that. If I do, hope to see some of you when I head over that way.

My boss is from Austin. She said today she can't wait to head home and just go catch a movie at the Drafthouse. Made me miss it even more.
I submitted my application day before the deadline and am just salivating over the thought of actually traveling elsewhere than the west coast, and to such a renowned event in a movie loving town such as Austin.

I gotta shake my head at some people applying to BNAT who thought it was sensible who guestimate Indiana Jones and the 01-18-08 movie in their films they hope to see there, I was sensible and think There Will Be Blood, Sweeney Todd and Walk Hard will be shown, they're at least finished films.

Lovely town, hope I get to experience it, if not this year than the next.

Sorry that we won't see you at the game.

However, you're officially committing film sin if you miss out on Sweeney Todd. Btw, same offer on hotels if anybody needs it for a weekend gathering during the Sweeney Todd opening. That is, if we do happen to make plans for a 6th Street visit or what not. I'm not gonna make anything in advance this time...since we need to iron out precisely which weekend is good for everybody.

It opens around Christmas, right?
Sweeney Todd opens December 21st. I wouldn't be able to make opening night, unless Drafthouse decides to do something insane worth spending vacation time on. Pending crazy Drafthouse antics, 22nd of December look good?

That's fine with me. I'll already be in Austin celebrating the ladyfriend's 21st on the 19th, so that weekend is perfect.

Count us in! The only thing that could be prohibitive would be the holidays and my wife and I flying to Vegas to see the in-laws.

I don't think that anyone would begrudge you a trip to Vegas...but I definitely hope the two of you can make it.

Are you still planning on catching the A&M game on the 23rd?
Well we're obviously missing a lot of posts, but did ya'll get together for Cloverfield?
Due to shows selling out, Jared and I couldn't make it. I still managed to see Cloverfield Friday night, but talking to someone I know vs. the white man in dredlocks that I sat next to would have been preferred.

Rambo's screening at the Village in a crap load of time slots.

I'm in if somebody else is in...I'll even buy the first round.
Sorry I couldn't reply to you sooner, Jared. Today was the first in about a week that I was able to post here due to technical issues. No amount of loggin in would let me actually post. Anyhow, you still up for some Rambo?

If not, then I BEG YOU ALL to attend the following:

LOVE STINKS: THE POWER BALLAD SING-A-LONG
Holy shit, I didn't think I liked me some 80's cock rock as much as I did. We're going to the Thursday, 2/21 show at 9:45. Tickets have already sold out for the Valentine's Day show, so hop on it if you're even thinking of going!

SPIKE AND MIKE'S SICK AND TWISTED ANIMATION
OK, this one tours around the country and isn't Alamo-only, but dammit if a bucket of beer isn't the best thing to wash down this show. Again, tickets sell out early! We're going to the Saturday, 2/9 show at 9:45.

No sweat Jeremy...I wasn't even able to get out of town at all this weekend. The ladyfriend was still recovering from some wicked flu-like malady that, thankfully, spared me its terrible wrath.

I'm trying to make it to College Station this weekend to see family, but the twisted animation show on the 9th looks like it'll be many different kinds of entertaining, so count me in unless something comes up.

The next couple of weekends, Master Pancake is hitting Back to the Future at the Ritz. Also, next weekend, South Lamar is showing all of the 2007 Academy Award Nominated Films in Animation next weekend...which I thought would be kind of neato.

If anybody's interested, speak up...it doesn't take much to get me to scoot down to Austin for the Alamo.

Also, I'm gonna be in Houston on the 23rd and 24th of this month and I know there's at least one Drafthouse (West Oaks)...Nordling? You still alive?
If you're in Houston I'm close to both Drafthouse's, West Oaks and Mason. The Academy showing looks awesome, but I have been incredibly swamped at work (hence my lack of presence on the boards), and doubt I could sacrifice a day for it. But if you're coming to town, I can see about clearing up 23 or 24th.

BillyG is also an awesome person. Just...FYI for anybody that didn't already know.

I'm all kinds of up for something 23rd or 24th...I'm taking my bros down to Houston so they can participate in a trading card tournament and I'm gonna be bored out of my mind.
If you'd like, Jared, some friends and I are planning to attend the AMC Oscar Marathon at the AMC on Westheimer. All 5 Best Picture nominees, plus free drinks and popcorn, for $30!

That goes for all Houston bound Chewers, too!

Holy jeez...12 hours and 25 minutes!

I appreciate the invite, Greg...and I'd love to make it, but there's no way I can leave my brothers unattended for that long. Maybe when you guys get out we can all go grab a bite to eat or something.
I really want to make it to the best picture showing, but that long in a theatre. No way in hell. Maybe one or two of them (I still have not had a chance to catch No Country or Blood) but I am definitely up for something afterwards.
Did anyone make it to this?

I always miss the good stuff. Crispin H. Glover, in person. The mind boggles.
Didn't make it to that, but I did meet Glover back in 2003 at the Drafthouse premire of Willard. Very shy person, but very nice. Was a lot more comfortable talking one on one than in front of the crowd.

Also, he came to the screening dressed as Willard. And the thing is, he looked right at home in that outfit.
I didn't catch this either, but I saw the line forming outside the Alamo for Crispin's autograph while waiting to get in to the Spike and Mike animation show (which fucking blew this year, IMO). I happened across a copy of The Onion one my walk back to the car which featured an interview with Glover. The brief synopsis of the movie Glover was hosting:

You didn't like the animation show? That trailer had me in tears.
I know! Based on last year's experience this trailer had me pretty jazzed. There didn't seem to be anything too inventive this year, just a lot of sperm and "whoa, I just blew off your head" jokes. I wasn't really a fan of the Chirpy clip last year, but I did appreciate that I didn't see mad canary-on-horse sex coming (ha!). Chirpy 2 was trying really had to capture that magic, but with a completely different animation style and a focus on Stud the Horse spooging on people and making them young again was a bit overplayed. I don't know if it was a bad crowd that night, because last year had the crowd just rolling. This year is was just sporadic chuckles from the guy behind me. There were a couple good clips, but not $9 worth.
I was invited to Austin for the 23rd for a friend's birthday. Dammit Jared, we keep missing each other! Depending on if I go or not depends on my availability at either city's Drafthouses.

Sounds pretty disappointing, actually...I still want to see one of these. I've heard a lot of great things

They do this one annually, though, right?

Well, I'd never encourage you to skip out on a friend's special day on my account. If you happen to be in town next weekend, however, I'd love to get something together with Greg Clark and his chums after their 12 hour film-fest.
I have no idea what the gameplan is after we emerge from our marathon. We might be exhausted, or, we might be a shifty ball of energy. Either way, Jared, I'll give you a ring and see if our paths are going to converge. BillyG, you're invited too!
Looks like I won't be going to Austin, as my friend is going to come into town that Thursday night. So 23/24 should be clear for me.
Jared/Greg, shot ya'll my cell phone number. I'm up for Friday or Saturday night get together.
Um, can I play? Well, more specifically if you were planning on Austin for Saturday night? I was just sheepishly asked by my wife if I'd mind if she went to a viola concert with some of her lady friends. "Ummmm...go ahead!" So, it's either glom on to you guys, if ya don't mind, or me finally getting out to see There Will Be Blood because someone would rather watch violas than Daniel Day-Lewis.
That'd be great, Jeremy, except this weekend's excursion is taking place in Houston.
Make the Saturday trip to Houston Jeremy. Jared's confirmed he'll be here, and we've got our cell numbers. I won't make it to the 12 hour movie fest, but afterwards I'm game for anything not taking place down Montrose way. Unless it's Katz's...

Jeremy, if there's any way you can make Houston Saturday night...that'd just be the shizz-izzle!

...or something.

Also, it would rock.
BASTARDS! Yeah, I thought this latest gathering was going to be in Houston. The drive doesn't bother me (though I've never been to Houston yet), but the 6-ish hours of driving plus associated shananagans in a weekend that's already cozy with taxes, drape hanging, and landscaping would make things rough. I really wish I was paying attention earlier on and I'd most likely have made the trip.

crap...
6 hours? Good god, how slow do you drive? From my house to my friend's place near UT takes me 2 hours cruising easy, each way. Come on man! Good times will be had! Compromising photos will be taken!
Serious? Again, I've never made the trip to Houston, but I swore I was told by a couple people that the Austin to Houston trip was 3 hours. Maybe they had tiny hamster bladders or something.
Have fun, guys. Saturday is the first night in a long time that we have the in-laws watching my daughter so we're going to take advantage and go to Katz's on Montrose and then catch U2-3D at the Edwards Greenway.

Unless you're going from the FAR side of Austin to the FAR side of Houston, 2 hours. Plus, if we meet anywhere near the Houston Alamo's they are all on the far west side.

And Alan, Katz's?! See guys, we need to go hijack Alan's romantic night at Katz's with cheesecake milkshakes!

So, Jared has a room at a Hampton Inn with two queen-size beds in it. He got this room so he wouldn't have to worry about all that driving after having all sorts of fun in Houston.

What's that, Jeremy? You say you're running out of excuses. It would seem so, my friend.

It would seem...so.
So who all is going to the 12 hour marathon? I am leaning toward it now, as some plans got canceled for this weekend. And seeing as how it won't be over until 11:30PM, it's a good chance to hang out with the Chewers.

There you go, Billy.

That should take you direct to Saturday's online ticketing for the AMC Studio 30.

ETA - Oh yeah, I'm going...btw.

Purchased. I really have no desire to see Atonement, but the rest of the line up is aces. But only refills on popcorn? So I've got to buy a bunch of $5 water? Sigh. See ya'll Saturday morning.

I think that Greg Clark and Co. are planning an extended intermission/grub-finding campaign during Atonement's screening.

I've theorized on how to make sure our popcorn jugs stay safe while we're gone and I'm thinking Sharpies and concession-people bribes...eh?
