E-mailing Yourself

Oops. I did it by accident, but it made me feel pretty stupid to get an e-mail notification from myself.

Actually, Billy Idol should update his song.

I e-mailed me again to apologize.

Nude picture attached, of course.

I keep emailing myself under the guise of an old friends, using sneaky subject lines like 'It's me, Angela!' or 'Hey Sexy..' only to open up the email and discover ads for enlarging my penile.. situation, or lovely smut websites

Tricks me every time I tells ya!

When you do it in Gmail, I like how the sender is "me".
Oddly enough I've done it because I send things I'm working on at the office and then I can access it at home. Sure I could use a flash drive but this also works.
I've e-mailed myself a few times also. I also use it, if I can't use my flash drive, or it's not near me.

I use it as a way to transfer files between locations as well. Usually, it is for printing purposes.

Once, while my parents were visiting for the weekend, I tried to call my house from my cell (to talk to them), but I ended up accidentally calling their house back in Florida. I got their answering machine, so for a minute, I was convinced that my Dad had recorded over my own answering machine message with an exact replica of his. It was one of the most confusing moments of my life. My brain almost short circuited, and I nearly drove into a pylon.

It's sort of related to emailing yourself. Shut up.

I email myself from Kevin Matchstick.

Whenever I email myself my messages get blocked as spam.

I email myself copy/pasted Chud articles, so I don't have to look at fucking Berserk.
I email myself constantly. I email reminders to myself from work to my home email for stuff I need to do when I get home. Sure I'm a crazy-lady, but it works.

I e-mail myself sometimes when I'm bored.

Usually things like "Future self, don't forget the lessons of the past!"

Me-From-The-Past and his sanctimonious e-mails. Fuck that guy.

Email yourself future omens.

6:30pm "I sat on the couch."
8:00pm "I watched Cavemen, again."
8:30pm "I drank some chocolate milk and surfed the chud forums."
....

Oh man, I e-mail myself all the time. First, because it makes me feel all important, because someone named 'me' is e-mailing me something and second, I tend to write stuff at work, stories, reviews, whatever, and send em for access from anywhere. Works wonders.

Seconded.

There's a site that will send you an email from yourself that you type up at a specific date in the future.

You could ask yourself "So, did your life turn out the way you expected?" in 5 years.

I've sent email reminders to myself before and I have no memory of sending these things, so it's weird. Also, I always think I'm such an asshole to myself.

That sounds like the makings of a bad Asian horror film.

futureme.org

Yeah, I've used it. It surprised the heck out of me when I got it, because I didn't remember doing it, at all. But, it was kind of fun reading it.

I do this all the time. I also do the printer/file transfer thing. Gmail kind of rocks in the file transfer regard, especially since it actually has more space than my flash drive. I've also been super lazy and emailed pictures to myself, simply because I didn't want to take the time to log into a photo account.

Plus, emailing myself is a good way to make money. I just ask myself to accept a check, then request a partial refund via paypal a day or two later. Works like a charm.

Just out of curiosity - does Kevin Matchstick from CHUD's message boards ever exchange e-mails with Justin Waddell from the CHUD SHOW? Has anyone ever even seen the two of them together?

Given the fluidity of the early days of the 'net, and how often we changed email names and providers, it's an indication of how things have evolved that we even have an expectation now that we'll be using the same email address in five years that we're using today. They used to be disposable, like "hello my name is" stickers; now they're like phone numbers. Not a deep observation, but an interesting one.

I think the general attitude over the past few years towards your.name@so&so.com type of e-mail addresses has really contributed to that particular phenomenon.

ETA - I can remove the email tags but it auto-adds them right back...is there a nohtml tag or anything for the boards?

m dead serious about this: many many years ago, I got an email from myself that said, "I know what you did last summer". Scared the crap out of me. I assume someone went into my account and did it as a joke, but i can never be sure. Because phantom emailing myself with that ridiculous line and then entirely forgetting it would mean I'm an unfunny psychotic.
