Ambient Oil

As I know lots of youse guys are huge fans of old-school films of the Easy Riders, Raging Bulls generation, I thought I'd direct you towards this great short film two of my friends made but refuse to pimp out: Ambient Oil by Brad Champagne and Chris Faiella. I just re-watched it and think it's pretty damn brilliant, it really throws off THX 1138 and Easy Rider vibes in a way that you never see from films (feature or short, mainstream or artsy) these days. Watch! Discuss! Spread to others!

I really hate to say this, but I don't get it.

I see a lot of inspiration in the way Dennis Hopper shot the final drug scene in Easy Rider, and it is very well done. The sound is very inventive as well.

I just don't understand what it was about.

I'm with Starving Dog. I don't get it. There seems to be some sort of symbolism going on but it appears to be tied to societal symbols that I just don't get. the weird amalgam of long slow fades and quick cuts don't help it much either. I also thought the cinematography was really flat.

Plus, from a professional perspective, it needs a sound mix in the worst way. Even basic eqing and some fades would help it out a lot.

Your friends may have talent, Stormin', but that wasn't the short to show it.
