Brutal Legend: New game by Tim Schafer

Not much info right now except for this scan:
Brutal Legend

I thought at first it was a game starring the Heavy Metal guy from Guitar Hero. Jack Black will be voicing a character. Hopefully more news hits soon. I'm needing another Schafer fix after Psychonauts.

Great, another game that like Psychonauts, will be ignored by the mouth breathers standing in line for games with numbers in their titles.

But, but, it's got JACK BLACK! The mouthbreathers may see that and give it a shot. And if not, at least those of us who know who Tim Schafer is will more than likely be playing a great game. At least someone gave him another shot.
I completely skipped over the news for this because I didn't see the Tim Schafer connection. Man oh man, am I glad he's still making games.

Going to dig up as much about this as I can find.

This game was specifically made for my friend Jon, whose penis exploded when I told him about it.
Excellent news!
It exploded?! Ouch. Well, doesn't sound like he was using it anyways.

Like Northed or hotdog in microwave? I'm curious.

Like Hiroshima.

I'm glad to be the bringer of penis exploding news. Makes this boring day at work a bit better.
I'd pretty much buy anything by Tim Schafer sight-unseen.

Hey, what's this rumbling in my penis...?
It is very difficult to find a copy of Psychonauts around here that doesn't look like it's been sexually abused. I regret not purchasing the game when it was first released.
According to his blog it's sold out. All 400,000 copies. Not too bad in the end. They tried to order more for their store but there was none. Gametap's the only way to go now, apparently.

This is the best pain my cock has ever exploded to.

Pretty sure it's on Steam as well.

This cheers me enormously.
Sounds reminiscent of Full Throttle.

Really annoying video of some guy playing Jack Black's first Brutal Legend song...
Man I hope someone who isn't a complete jackass uploads the song.

That issue of GI hit my mailbox yesterday. Not only will it feature Jack Black, but Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, and Lemmy also lend their voices.

Gameply kind of sounds like Overlord, in that you face mobs of enemies, and you recruit troops that you issue commands to in battle.

All the Half Price Books in Houston have several copies, so if you have one in your city, it might as well.

Or somewhere between God of War and Overlord--it seems like the main game mechanic is relatively traditional hack n' slash. Not that that's a bad thing, it just sounds like it's technically an action game rather than an RTS.

Got nothing really new to add for you messageboard denizens, but I wrote up an article about Brutal Legend here- http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=m...ntrol&id=12156

People need to know about this.

First line in the link above your post!

This is exciting. I didn't know the name Tim Schafer, but I do know that Psychonauts was one of the best damn games I've ever played. I'm all over this.

I'm the opposite, in that I love Tim Schafer, but for some reason I never played Psychonauts. A mistake that will soon be rectified. The man was behind all of my favorite LucasArts productions save for Sam & Max.
If this doesn't come out for the PC I might have to do the unthinkable and buy my first console since the Sega Genesis.

Dio, Halford and fucking Lemmy? Holy shit!
Tim still has a career? Good for him.
He's like Darren Aronofosky. He'll always find a way.

I was going to check this out anyway because of Schafer's involvement, but when The Mob Rules kicks in I was sold.

Put me in the exploded penis club.
If they can keep that weird sort of claymation look in-engine, I will find a way to bear Tim Schafer's young.

Working link for now

AND HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKS AWESOME!

Day= FUCKING MADE

Look at the banner underneath the Brutal Legend banner. Look at it. Look at it and WANT.

Is there anything that indicates a sequel? For all we know, it could be a Wii port of the original game.

I refuse to get my hopes up.
Well, he's holding two fingers out.
He's holding two fingers out on the cover of the first game. This isn't Ghostbusters we're talking about.

I'm guessing the "Coming Soon" means a dedicated Psychonauts site is coming soon. Double Fine never made one when it was released, since it was their only game and therefore somewhat redundant.

I think that's the same pose from the original cover, with the jedi mind trick hands and whatnot.

As for it probably just being a Wii port, I prefer to dream the sequel dream.
Well *I'll* get my hopes up, and I'm taking you all with me. I don't think they'd use the cocktease banner if they were just porting it to the Wii. That's my fragile dream and I'm clinging to it.
Don't get me wrong--I love Psychonauts more than anyone here, and I'll knife the first man who says differently. But it was kind of a massive commercial flop that helped tank its parent company. Which usually scuttles any chances for a sequel, you know?

I was also under the assumption that Double Fine was kind of a small company. Certainly not big enough to work on two major games simultaneously. Especially when the driving creative force from Psychonauts will be busy working on another game for, oh, the entire next year.

I'm just saying.
From Xbox 360 Fanboy:

Update: It was nice while it lasted, but Joystiq has learned that Double Fine's projects page does not signify that Psychonauts 2 is in the works. It turns out that that "coming soon" placeholder is merely for the upcoming page about the original game. Sigh.
I'd say I told you so, but deep down I'm disappointed too.
Well... phooey. It was nice to dream.
FUCK ACTIVISION.

Quote:
According to a report from Variety, Activision Blizzard has informed Electronic Arts of its claim to Double Fine's Brütal Legend, saying that it was still negotiating with the developer about its publishing plans. While everyone else seems to think differently—Activision Blizzard sure seemed to have shrugged the heavy metal-themed game off, like so many other Vivendi Games titles it absorbed—Activision thinks it's owed.

....According to what we'd heard, Double Fine was under the impression that it was free to find another publisher, after the title contractually slipped through Activision's fingers. That publisher eventually turned out to be Electronic Arts.

EA told Variety that it doesn't expect to be hit with a lawsuit, as that would be as ridiculous as "a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy."
Well, ain't that a kick in the teeth.
EA's publishing this? I'm hoping there's a Wii version coming... crossing fingers. ActiBlizzard's being kinda assholish about this whole affair. Do they have legal claim to sue? Wouldn't that make the terms of the publishing contract, um, lousy for Double Fine?
The EA rep who spoke to Variety must not be familiar with the recent WATCHMEN nonsense.
I thought it was brilliant.
