Hellgate: London

Sorry if something was posted earlier but this work browser is awful and I can't search beyond the first page. Anybody with any thoughts on this? I like the concept, the videos look fun but before I place a preorder I was hoping to get something more than the little blurbs I've seen from those in the beta.

Ha ha, Oh wow. I checked in here to see if anyone was commenting on the demo that just got released for Hellgate. It's getting a nice reaming elsewhere, I figured the hilarity would be on over here too.

In short, looks good but it's...ahh...horribly boring? I figured maybe the demo was half-baked (it doesn't even tell you it's over when it's over) but a beta tester said elsewhere "Well, if you don't like the demo, the rest of the game is more of the same."

It could just be suffering from the "hyped to the heavens" expectations.

*shrug*

I was kind of pissed not knowing it was over. I really really want this game to be wow Diablo, so I'll hold out for reviews.

I don't get where the negativity is coming from. Did these people play a different demo than me? Having read all the whining, I was a little apprehensive as I started the demo.

Pleasant surprise no. 1: The game runs smooth like butter at 1680X1050 with high settings. My PC is neither weak nor top of the line but it handled this game much better than that piece of shit Stranglehold.

Pleasant surprise no. 2: If you've put any amount of hours in Diablo or Diablo II, learning how to play Hellgate won't take you more than 5 minutes. I was immediately comfortable with the combat, skill management and the inventory.

I will experiment with it a little more but for now it's definitely a must buy for me.

I finally put about 30 minutes into the demo (not a lot, but that's how much time I had last night). It's amazing just how Diablo this game is. It's almost shameless really, right down to one of your first quests being finding some kid's artificial leg. It was fun but I think most people are a litte beyond clicking on monsters in order to hit them at this point. The combat system had potential to be so much more than it is, although there's the chance it blossoms a little bit as you gain more skills.

Just a heads up that the EULA for this particular game allows EA to sell your PC information, including IP addresses and applications installed, to third parties. This is on top of collecting your information for streaming in-game ads. I'm not one to usually bitch about this stuff but this is a pretty ugly EULA.

The similarities and the little nods to Diablo are expected, and welcome in my opinion, considering the team behind this. It's supposed to be a sci-fi/fantasy Diablo III in all but name after all.

pc gaming is struggling as it is without the need to fuck over the small consumer base as it is. This isn't a deal breaker, but I doubt I'll even bother with this game...maybe just work on my Titan Quest character instead.

Did anyone else catch the nod to Braindead with the Sumatran Rat Monkey that randomly shows up?
