The Pacific Film Archive (UC Berkeley/East Bay, CA)

I don't know how many of you guys are from the Bay Area but I noticed there wasn't a PFA-related discussion and thought I'd add one.

Currently, the series I like most is Once Upon a Time in Widescreen, which is a series in which they're showing Sergio Leone's films during the weekends in the later half of October. This week was the first week and they showed A Fistful of Dollars on Friday and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly on Saturday.

The temporary structure housing the PFA's screening room is nicer than most permanent theatres. I can't count the amazing stuff I've seen there, but the Guy Maddin retrospective and the double feature of Seven Men From Now and The Bullfighter and the Lady come close. I missed out when they ran all five-and-a-half hours of Andy Warhol's Sleep though.

Thanks for bringing back fond memories. I haven't thought about the Pacific Film Archive in a long, long time.

Hammerhead, I totally agree with you (especially when the PFA brings in live orchestras to provide the scores for some films). Also, Overlord, I'm glad it brought back fond memories for you. I swear, once I graduate, the three things I'll miss about UCB will be the PFA, Howison Library, and crazy, loose and drug addled girls from Cloyne and CZ. (Speaking of the co-op girls and the things they do, the PFA is playing playing Alfie in the coming week.)

At least you're attending while the football team is good. We sucked all four of my years at Berkeley. Except for the brief Mariucci tenure, which quickly went to shit.
