I've been re-reading NEW GODS and Simonson's ORION.
Thoughts on THE BLACK RACER? I think he's one of the goofiest looking Kirby characters of all time, but death merging with a quadriplegic man is a creepy/cool concept. I love that last panel with a wide-eyed Willie Walker in #3.
"Willie Walker's eyes grow wide! He is aware! He now knows his next quarry!
Who is it? HIM? HER?
YOU?"
As for Walter Simonson's Orion, those comics show that Simonson is one of the all time great comic artists. Issue #5 (Orion vs. Darkseid "for all the marbles!") is crazy. 20 pages of an epic fight that's worthy of THE LAST BATTLE that Orion was always yelling about in the Kirby comics.
