Bionic Commando rises again!

Some screens and art here...

I loved this game back in the NES days and have been hoping for a new one for awhile now. Looks pretty cool so far. Although the arm is a tad overdone in my opinion. But still....BIONIC COMMANDO!

From CHUNKYLOVER's post:

Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed a return for one of its classic franchises with the announcement that Bionic Commando is in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION3 (PS3) and PC platforms.

Taking its inspiration from its 8-bit namesake released on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1988, Bionic Commando features Nathan Spencer (voiced by former lead singer of Faith No More, Mike Patton), a government operative who represents the ultimate fusion of man and machine. After distinguishing himself in a fierce conflict against the Imperials, Spencer is betrayed and falsely imprisoned by the very people he unquestioningly served.

I don't know how I feel about this game if it doesn't have the same 8-bit sound for the arm that I was so used to.

But seriously, this is awesome. Hopefully it holds up well in translation. I remember the story was actually pretty good...or maybe I was so young, that I thought the shitty story was pretty good.

Yah I posted this 2 mins before Chunky. Great minds think alike. I just hope they throw Hitler back in this game. And Mike Patton. Great casting there. Loved his voiceovers in The Darkness.
Robot Hitler better be making an appearance.

This was my favorite game when I was a kid, and I always felt it was destined for some sort of comeback. Between this, Ninja Gaiden 2, and that new game from the Psychonauts creator, I finally have video games to look forward to.

Whats the game by the Psychonauts creator? I've been out of touch with video games for a bit.

Hopefully they give this game a save function. I dedicated way too many Saturdays trying to get through it in one sitting.

Brutal Legend. There is already a thread about it.

Sweet . . . Now if they'll just bring back Blaster Master . . .

Fuck Blaster Master. I have great hate for that game. To me that's like saying bring back "Fester's Quest".

I like to add a couple of words for Fester's Quest: FUCK and YOU.

And for those who missed it: SPOILERS!!!

This is my most favoritest NES game ever. I can't tell you how many times I exploded Hitler's face.

I wish they weren't using the well-worn Apocalypse Pallette (TM) for the new game but it still looks pretty hot.
Fuck this shit. I want a new Karnov.
Interesting news, I liked the original (never came close to beating it though), should be fun to see what kinds of uses and puzzles they develop based around the ol Bionic extendo-arm. I'll be happy if I can use it to punch/neck-snap people from across a room.
haha, wow. Fester's Quest and Karnov.

I remember a game where you were this skinny little pink looking dude, and when you got powered up you turned into a huge muscle hulk that would punch guys off of the screen. I think it started with an "A"? Anyone know what it is? I can't fucking remember for the life of me.

But that game ruled, I want an update of that one.

Look what I found out on wikipedia about Fester's Quest:

"One of the more common enemies, namely the frog-like Hoppers, are actually miniaturized versions of the frog boss from Blaster Master, another Sunsoft game.
Most of the sound effects are from Blaster Master"

Now it all makes sense. Once again, fuck both of those games.

You guys have it all wrong.

The only game SCREAMING for a movie adaptation is of course, the classic of classics:

Bad Dudes

I mean, not only do you have a huge built in fanbase, but in this day and age, with the current global situations with Iraq, the scandalous US presidency.. what game could possibly be more pertinent to these social hot topics than one with this plot:

Those pesky ninjas. Always starting shit.
Trejo does make a valid point. In these times, I think the question posed by Bad Dudes is one we must all, as citizens of the world, ask ourselves.

Well, are you a bad enough dude to save the president?
If ninjas kidnapped Pres. Bush, I think they'd find themselves sitting around the phone, wondering why no one is answering their demands.
The decision to have Mike Patton voice the Bionic Fucking Commando is making my brain bubble. I'm totally puzzled right now.

I just read somewhere recently that Fester's Quest was essentially Blaster Master 2, because Sunsoft thought the original didn't sell well because it had no license attached.

Ninja's only give and recieve messages via little scrolls wrapped around throwing darts or shruikens.. I mean.. gosh, this IS the video game thread

Another reason why Bad Dudes will be successful: that's clearly Duke mother fucking Nukem giving them their mission briefing. If 3d Realms ever pulls a "Prey" and releases their 15 year delayed game, talk about a big cameo!

Okay, thats enough shenanigans, my hyperbole-generating robot is on the fritz..

My penis has exploded twice this week from video game news.

I think there might be.. like.. a cream or something for that.

Yeah... I feel some cream.

That part got me too.

I would have sworn that Nick was messing with us... but, no. Looks like I'll have to check out the Darkness VG too.

And Amagon, wasn't that the guy who would run out of bullets and go around holding his rifle above his head swinging it back and forth? I hated that game.
I wonder if you will be able to use the arm AND JUMP at the same time.. or would that ruin the fun of the original bionic commando?
I'll have to proclaim my ignorance, I've never fucking heard of Bionic Commando.

Jesus LD. I used to have that book and read it so much it literally fell apart at the seams.
yeah, when I was probably 6 years old, that was my favorite thing in the world. I would read every word about the games I didn't have. The worst part? The obscenely long map of Metroid.
That book also told you how to get through the Lost Woods in Zelda, which as a young child, was the most bewildering shit ever.
If Capcom is making a sequel to Bionic Commando, what other classics could they be making sequels for? Hopefully the rumors of Street Fighter IV hinted in EGM are true. They should make a sequel to all of our fave 80's games. Total Carnage would also be an excellent game to remake. Total Carnage is about our invasion of a Middle Eastern Country to rescue our President from terrorists.

We don't need Street Fighter 4. I'm just waiting on the HD version of SF if anything. There are load of fighting games out there that are better than SF.

Marvel Vs. Capcom anybody?
I wont say that I'm all that interested in a fourth Street Fighter, but I never thought any of the Vs. games held a candle to Street Fighter III.
I liked Capcom vs SNK, but only because it didn't have that bullshit tag-out feature
post #41 of 55
cough.. (Bleach DS thread).. for 2-D fighters online... cough.

It's simple, a game that needs updating: Altered Beast

Hell yeah.

Fail.
The ability to change into animals is as good an idea as any for a videogame, but Altered Beast is literally ten minutes long, and ten very shitty minutes, at that.
Street Fighter IV is needed so Capcom's fighting series can remain the best Fighting game on any system. It's even possible that Capcom could finally succeed in making a good 3D Street Fighter game on the Xbox 360, after their failed 3D games on the original Xbox.

Street Fighter should never be in 3D. Not after the abortion that came out a few years ago. Plus, nothing beats animated 2d games.
Rob Hughes, I agree with you about 2D fighters being better. I have a PS2 in addition to the XBox 360. I am a huge SNK fan and I bought the Fatal Fury, Art Of Fighting, and Metal Slug Anthologies on the PS2. In 2008 Samurai Showdown, and King Of Fighters Anthologies are joined by SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1 for the PS2.

Even though I enjoy the DOA, and Soul Calibur series, I would like to see a good 3D game with Capcom's Street Fighter characters.

Last post on this subject in the thread on Bionic Commando; if you enjoy your DOA and Soul Calibur and enjoy 2d games, why the need for a 3d SF? It would bring nothing new to the table at all and unless it was cell shaded, the character models would look rediculous.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:BionicCommando.jpg

We need to go back to the times when game covers had nothing to do with what the characters looked like in the game. Even the colors didn't match. Ahh, i still love ya Ladd Spencer.
Rob Hughes, Street Fighter IV has been rumored. Unless it is 3D, it will not be either a 360, or PS3 title unless it was a downloadable game. It could be a 2D PS2 title, but that is just wishful thinking on my part. Rob Hughes, Do not worry I will post no more on the subject of Street Fighter IV in your Bionic Commando forum.
