Although I like a lot of Robert Plant's post-Zeppelin stuff, when I first saw he had a new album with Alison Krauss coming out, I didn't think it was something to look forward to. But since hearing "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" an hour ago, I've made plans to pick this up on Tuesday. More info can be found on Amazon.com and here:

'Gone Gone Gone' has piqued my interest. Pretty groovin', but sweet, tune. Rhapsody has the entire album available now.

This is a pretty low-key release. I didn't realize he had a new album coming out until a few days ago.

Here's a live performance of "Gone Gone Gone" that includes the one and only Marc Ribot among the players.

It's a great album. Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us is my favourite on the album but that might have to do with my recent obsession with Rosetta Tharpe.

I have to admit on first listen I really didn't like how their voices blended together but on repeated listening they go together like John Prine and Iris Dement.

I was the opposite - though I love Zeppelin, I have not liked anything Plant's done since, but I've loved almost everything Krauss has done - she really has the voice of an angel. So I looked at this as more of a Krauss album than a Plant one. And I really dig most of the album - their voices go together really well. It's some of the best harmonizing I've heard since... well, ever.

I went to middle school with Alison Krauss. Champaign, Illinois. She made fun of me....

Years later, I got back at her by not buying one of her cds.

Anyway, I remember when Dolly Parton rolled through town, Krauss played with her. And that was a big deal. And then there was no stopping her.

Jenny Garth also spent some time in my hometown. I'm so sorry that you're jealous.

Despite being a bigger fan of Justin than Alison, I bought this CD today. This is one beautiful set of songs. Both invidually and together, Plant's and Krauss's vocals sound amazing. T. Bone Burnette and everyone else involved with Raising Sand deserve big kudos. After just a few listens today, I'm confident this will make my top ten of the year.
