Question about working online

I recently found out I was not going to be receiving a raise I thought I was going to get at work. While it's not the biggest set-back, I was definitely counting on the increase in pay to help me with some bills that have gotten out of control. I'm not living paycheck to paycheck, but a few hundred extra bucks a month would most definitely help out considerably. I won't be getting the raise for another 10 months or so, so in the meantime I was thinking about getting a part-time job to pad my income. The problem with that is most of the places I've looked are looking for 20 to 30 hours a week in help. I could do that, but at this point I'm looking for alternatives.

Which brings me to the point of this thread. I see a lot of advertisements (mostly in the local paper) about working online for a few hours a week doing various things and making a semi-decent amount of money doing it. Obviously I'm not biting, as I'm wary that every sort of "make money fast online" deal is a scam. However, I'm curious if there is anything out there that is legit, or if any of you pad your income this way.

Anyway, any suggestions or help would be much appreciated. Thanks for anything in advance.

Browse around Workaholics4Hire for at least the tips on what it takes to do remote work. Otherwise, make sure you're good at marketing yourself and have something to show (e.g., portfolio, code, etc.).

Yes, those are usually scams.

The way to go is "home-shoring". I have a friend who is contracted by Jet Blue as a customer service rep. She works from home answering overflow calls or customers requesting a spanish-speaking rep. She gets paid about $500 a week part time.

Some of the firms that employ her are Alpine Access & Working Solutions Inc.

Writer for CHUD? I don't know how well it pays, but it looks like you can score some free movie shit!

Shit I'd write for CHUD for free, but unfortunately my skills are severely lacking in everything it takes to be a writer for this site (wit, a semi-deep knowledge of film history/language, and an affinity for the asterisk), so that's most likely out of the question!

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated.
