Coheed & Cambria: No World For Tomorrow

Got my signed copy from Merchnow in the mail today. I haven't got to listen to it sraight through yet. Just sort of listened to a bit of each song while driving around doing errands.

Unlike the last two albums that started with the same instrumental theme, NWFT get's straight to the music with an acoustic song called "The Reaping". My favorite tune so far is "Feathers".

What can I say, it's C&C. If you like the band, you'll probably like this. If you don't, it's not going to convert you. If you follow the storyline, I guess shit really hit's the fan.

I love C&C, but something about this new one hasn't quite connected with me yet. Maybe it's because I haven't been able to give it my full attention, as I've been enamoured with the new Radiohead, Ministry, Between the Buried and Me, and Down albums. I'll have to sit down this afternoon and give it the proper attention it deserves.

And if you've never seen these guys live I suggest doing so immediately. They put on a great show. Definitely in my top 5 live performances.

On the DVD, Claudio say's the song The Running Free was written for the movie Transformers, but wasn't picked to be used in the film.

Would have been better than fuckin' Linkin Park.

I am curious, but I'm gonna listen first before buying.
I don't think they could ever top Welcome Home in my mind, so we'll see...

I'm picking this up tomorrow, but I've listened to almost everything on their myspace page. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed that they did away with the opening theme, but other than that everything sounds great. Taylor Hawkins played all of the drums on here, and while it's not a huge departure, his playing still put down a very solid foundation for Claudio and Travis to play with. I hope the new guy they picked up for touring can hold the parts down, because I've seen the band live with Josh Eppard, and they were phenomenal. Very excited to pick this up.

"Mother Superior" puts me in a trance everytime I listen to it. Just an incredible song. The bonus DVD contains acoustic demos of 5 Coheed songs. "Favor House" and "The Suffering" changed alot lyrically in the final versions.

Alright, it grew on me. The other day I was listening to "Feathers" and everything just clicked. I like this much more than Good Apollo...From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. The only tune I'm really not digging is The Running Free.

Oh yeah and Feathers? Definitely the next single.

Mother Superior is such an amazing fucking track. I bought this on Tuesday, and now that it's getting played in it's proper place (very loudly in my car, as opposed on my shitty laptop speakers) it's quickly becoming what IV was for me, which was in constant rotation for a few months. I'm so jealous of this band, I mean, I love my band and all, but these guys just seem to have it all right. They play like masters, and they have the whole creative storyline on top of it. The people turned off by Claudio's voice are completely missing out on a great band.

Oh and Bark, I loved those demos, but yeah, they've changed a lot. Claudio seems to sing every high part in falsetto in those, instead of his usual belting style. The harmonies also sound a lot stranger, but it's cool to hear the evolution. Those demo's also show just how much Travis brings to the songs with his parts.

I can't get any of my friends to listen to Coheed, strictly because of his voice. It pisses me off to no end, as they're really missing out on a great band. Although I do have to admit that I was turned off by Claudio at first, but the songs from In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth ('specially the title track) found themselves stuck in my head and I eventually cracked and picked up that and Second Stage...and the rest is history.

Much like Chris, this album has been on remarkably high rotation at remarkably high volume in my car to and from work for the past week. It's the only time I get to really listen to music properly anymore, unfortunately.

The first listen was "yeah, it's pretty good", but it has grown on me fast. An incredible album, although I still hold GAIBS4 slightly higher (hey, I was using "Welcome Home" for my entrance music in wrestling matches for the past couple of years, so . . . you know . . .). I was pretty bummed to find they had done away with the opening theme they've used on all albums so far, but got over that quickly. I'm not feeling the love for "Feathers" as much as most here, but "Mother Superior", "No World For Tomorrow", "The Hound" and my personal fave at the moment, "Gravemakers & Gunslingers" are huge, righteous slabs of rock the way it was meant to be played.

Great album.

I watched Coheed perform on Jimmy Kimmel tonight. The band has added two female back up singers to fill in when Claudio runs out of breath, which seems to be quite often.

New album, Year of the Black Rainbow in April.

stoked.

So is it a prequel then? I don't follow the storyline at all.

And seeing as this is a thread dedicated to their last album, I might as well give my 2 cents, even though I'm way late. I think this was definitely their least "proggy" album, and probably their most accessible, altho that's certainly not a bad thing. I enjoyed the hell out of it and probably would rank it second in their overall discography.

I always thought IKSOSE was their least proggy, and that NWFT and Good Apollo were their most but it's certainly a taste thing. Proggy isn't a bad thing in my book . Good question on the story, and I'm not sure. Honestly though, I've tried to follow the story, and when he started involving a talking bicycle in Good Apollo, I was kind of done with the plot. Still some kick ass riffs and imagery though.

I planned to pick up the deluxe version of YOTBR, until I found out it's over $50. I'll pick up the regular version soon though. iTunes has an exclusive track called "Hush".

The deluxe version contains a 30 minute making of DVD, and I've read the tone of the band seems to suggest this will be the last "Coheed" album, since the whole story has been told.

The documentary from the Neverender set has hit Youtube. It's about how the band came together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFphz...eature=channel

New album is a grower, for sure. First listen elicited an unsure "hmmmmm . . ." from me, but it sure has grown on me. "The Broken", "This Shattered Symphony" and "World Of Lines" are the stand outs for me, and they have another unusually, oddly beautiful balled in "Far".

Someone's mentioned it on one of the behind-the-scenes clips, but these really are some of the biggest, catchiest choruses Claudio's ever written.

For the handfull of Chewers that might care, Chris Penne has quit the band.

Yeah, heard about it yesterday and was gutted.  With Phillips getting arrested for the armed robbery thing a few months back, they just lost one of the most dynamic rhythm sections in rock today.  Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out from here, with the Amory Wars story effectively complete and what will obviously amount to a massive change in sound.
