Obligatory Halloween Megamix 2007 - Page 2

Dee Snider put out a Halloween-themed metal album called Oculus Infernum a couple of years ago with a band called Van Helsing's Revenge. It's a concept album with lots of Halloweenish sounds (screams, chains, etc.) intermingled with the songs. Pretty cool stuff.

Seconding Dead Man's Party, but for Ozzy, I'd go with Bark at the Moon or Shot in the Dark.

The music to 'Mr. Crowley' is much more creepy and foreboding. It would be kinda amusing playing that song while the little tikes walk up to the porch just to see the reaction of some of the parents.

I thought "Zodiac" really revived the potential of "Hurdy Gurdy Man" for me.

Worst. Halloween. Song. Ever.

And for a GOOD song, I nominate "The Long Black Veil."

We could do a whole mini-thread on Innocuous Songs That Suddenly Seem Creepy When Used in Horror/Suspense Films. I nominate Inna Gadda Da Vita from Manhunter.

That got nullified by The Simpsons, though.

"Remember when we used to make out to this hymn?"

Type O Negative has a cover of "Black Sabbath" that scares the pants off of me.

I don't know how it's slipped through, unless I missed it. But my halloween mixes always have John Carpenter's "Halloween Theme." It's usually first.

I go with "Wait For the Blackout" by the Damned. Grimly Fiendish scares me, but not in the way a Halloween mix intends.

Ditto, though I really like Hawkins' version as well.

I tend to go for the spookier classic rock, or songs linked to sinister events.

"Helter Skelter" - The Beatles
"Riders on the Storm" - The Doors
"Horse Latitudes" - The Doors (nightmarish!)
"Country Death Song" - Violent Femmes
"House of the Rising Sun" - The Animals (wasn't spooky before Casino, but it sure is now.)

Some of the spoken word stuff by Ken Nordine and Tom Waits is also quite creepy, as is the subgenre of music called Dark Ambient.

What about the Cramps, or Daikaiju? Any of their stuff works.
