As if the strike weren't bad enough. Now the trains that are running are spontaneously bursting into flames. Glad I woke up late this morning or that would have been my train.

Yeah, "spontaneously."

The sabotage rumors were flying all over Suburban Station.

I can't believe you take that nasty train and are worried about swine flu in your building. You probably brought it in on your shoe.

Same here. My future mother in law takes the R5 daily... but she was feeling under the weather and decided to work from home. Lucky thing, actually. That incident, plus watching all those smug bastards with the picket signs, made me join the "Boycott SEPTA" group on Facebook. Fuck them... bring on the scabs!
I'm beginning to think the R5 line was built over a cursed indian burial ground.

You guys are going to wake up to trains looming over each of your beds, just watching you. And waiting.
No worries there. Knowing SEPTA they'll arrive too late and I'll already be in the shower.

Either that, or the trains will bitch and moan that the dental plan they have is complete shit.

Survey: Philly Has the Least Attractive People

For the third year in a row, residents and visitors have voted Philadelphia the city with the least attractive people, according to a survey by Travel + Leisure.

But that's not all; the City of Brotherly Love also ranked as the least stylish, least active, least friendly and least worldy by 60,000 respondents who ranked 30 cities in several categories ranging from food to nightlife to culture. On the bright side, the beauty of the museums and art galleries was enough to boost Philly to the third spot in the Historical Sites/Monuments category.

Rounding out the bottom three in the area of unattractiveness are Cleveland and St. Louis, while Miami, San Diego and Charleston, SC are home to the most beautiful people, the survey found. See where your city ranked in the America's Favorite Cities survey.

A friend of a friend was on that show 20 years ago and swears he put his tongue in her mouth when he kissed her.

Sure.

I didn't grow up here. My little butthole was safe from Uncle Al. I was saving myself for Uncle Eddie in my late teens.

I've been saving myself for Sally Starr.

Only 10 of them? I like those odds. But the candy asses are protesting at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill. I want to see how their trip to Philly goes.

Jews, gays, AND high school students? They've clearly picked their battles very wisely.

That's my high school they're going to. I've got a bunch of old friends on facebook linking to this now:

Found out about this too late, as usual. In the most macabre way, I've desired to actually see these folks in person for a long time now. After years of studying European history in the first half of the 20th Century, I feel that it would be instructive to see mindless hate in the flesh (and from a safe distance, as it were).

Had I made it, this would have been the second time I was going to Cherry Hill...for a horror convention.

Students in a Philadelphia-area school district have launched a lawsuit accusing their schools of spying on them at home through webcams installed in laptop computers the district gave them.

The parents of Blake Robbins, a student at Harriton High School in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, have launched a class-action lawsuit on behalf of 1,800 high school students who were issued laptops by the Lower Merion School District.

Robbins' family only found out that school officials were allegedly spying on students when an assistant principal confronted Robbins about "improper behaviour in his home,” and showed him a picture taken from Robbins' school-issued laptop, reports the Toronto Star.

Wow, wtf.
Awesome. That's not gonna backfire at all.

The Orwell angle speaks for itself. But, ya know, in the same ignorant way as the teacher venting on Facebook, it's hard to imagine that anyone could bring a two-way functioning technogadget into their home and not worry about something like this. Especially if it comes with a huge fucking webcam lodged on the top of it.

People are dumb with technology. Combine that with the irresponsible refusal to recognize that it will be employed in the most nefarious ways possible, even if this is the good ol US of A, and you get a recipe for disaster. Or is it a sordid cocktail of catastrophe?
So now we have a Flash Mob epidemic where kids end up looting stuff in center city or hitting people with snow balls. Not only are we over five years behind the cultural curve, but we're doing it wrong!

How did they Nazi this coming?

Three men who showed up in full Nazi regalia to a hardcore punk show at an Old City bar Friday night were attacked by as many as 50 people on the streets after leaving the venue, according to witnesses and club management.

The headlining band at the Khyber that night was Murphy's Law, led by front man Jimmy G, who formerly went by the moniker Jimmy Gestapo.

In an e-mail to the Daily News, Jimmy G confirmed that some guys had showed up to the concert in "full Nazi field dress."

"And they did get their asses kicked," he wrote. "Again."
I don't see why this needed to be reported. Aren't beatings pretty much a direct consequence of someone showing up in public dressed as a Nazi? Over here they'd probably get stabbed too.
