"Mark Newgarden is where Ernie Bushmiller and Marcel Duchamp meet. Great stuff." - Patrick McDonnell

I read a collection of his stuff recently (We All Die Alone) and I was blown away. Probably best known for creating the Garbage Pail Kids, Mark Newgarden is an amazing cartoonist who did incredibly subversive things with the "Sunday Morning Funnies" format. Think Nick's Mary Worth War but a million times more morose and depressing.

I hadn't realized Newgarden was doing children's books, but I suppose that's not surprising--a lot of cartoonists are getting into that scene now. I've got some Tony Millionaire kids books that my daughters read...meanwhile I keep my Maakies collections on the highest shelf we've got. I should put them behind glass with an alarm system just to make sure the girls don't get ahold of those.

Another Raw allumni who does some amazing children's books now is Richard McGuire, who somehow does not have a listing on wikipedia. The guy's a genius.
