Amazing shorts, a director's cut of Hostel and some trailer ideas for Eli Roth's next film...

Well done, sir. People that use the term torture porn to describe Hostel are ignorant. That whole term is just retarded. Hostel is a masterpiece, not so much Hostel Part II. Is the Director's Cut DVD worth owning if you already have the DVD? Hostel is in my all time top five but I'm not sure if I would bother watching a director's cut over the original when it comes time to pop it in. The scene where he fucks up the Dutch Businessman is one of the best in the film.

I finally got around to reading the review of the fest day 2, and I am now insanely jealous. I can't believe they made a short out of "Foet". I read that in a "Year's Best Horror" a few years ago, and it was the only story therein that was original enough to make a lasting impression on me. All the others sound really good as well. Any chance they'll put out a "Horror Festival Collection" DVD w/ alll these shorts on it? If not, how about them selling the individial shorts?

They've got a couple of best-of dvds, but as far as I know they haven't done any for the last few years. Shame, cause there's some great stuff out there.

I'm getting coverage up for the last 3 days of the fest, but my brain is pretty much fried right now. A combination of watching dozens of movies, drinking all night and not sleeping will do that to you.

Highlights of the fest-

Drinking till way too late on Saturday night with Kit Ryan, director of Botched and his brother, who owes me 10 bucks from a bet. Awesome couple of guys, which was great to see, since Botched was the most fun I've had with a movie (and audience) in a damn long time.

Watching a whole audience get creeped out with The Girl Next Door, and the girls on both sides of me clench and hide their eyes during THAT scene (you know...)

H.G. Lewis leading a rousing rendition of The South Will Rise Again after the 2000 Maniacs screening. He sang the whole song, and the audience supplied the Yee-has!

Sitting through Uwe Boll's Seed at 12 noon, laughing my head off at how shit it was, and wondering if everyone else was thinking I was a dick because they all seemed silent and into it. Brutal, my ass.

More is coming, fellas. Hope you're liking these.

Oh, and just an FYI- you can find Foet on Youtube if you look around. Not sure if the director put it up there so didn't want to link to it.

Well, like I said I haven't seen the movie since I saw it in theaters, so it's been a while. I didn't notice any new scenes or such besides the ending, I think they just dwelled on some of the gore a bit more, like the girl's eyeball goo.

(Just checked IMDB. Yeah, there's only 3 tiny additions to the film.

* 1. A close-up of the German Surgeon's severed leg after it's cut off by the chainsaw.
* 2. A slightly extended take of Kana's eye being cut off and the subsequent puss.
* 3. A close-up of the train crushing Kana's head during her suicide.

Director's cut my asshole. He didn't even like that ending as much as the theatrical one.)

However, not having bought the original version on DVD, I may just pick up THIS version, since I'm all about dwelling on the gore. While I agree that the ending in the original works better that this one sounds, from your written description, I wouldn't mind seeing it. Just for kicks.
