Hallween movie recommendations

I'm throwing a party tonight and would appreciate any help thinking up some good movies to show (mainly as background noise/good visuals). Keep in mind these probably won't be watched in full but left running to add atmosphere and fun. Ridiculous, campy and over the top are always a plus, thanks.

Creepshow is the ultimate Halloween movie, especially as background at a party. There's almost always something visually interesting going on. I would also definitely put on Ghostbusters. Everybody loves Ghostbusters.

Can't beat the classics for background visuals. You probly don't want anything with too many lulls, so I'd go for old zombie movies dawn/day of the dead or one of the Friday the 13th's, if you want there to be more gore. Some of the old Hammer flicks could also be quite rad to play.

And Plan 9 From Outer Space... Definitely Plan 9 From Outer Space!

While Ghostbusters seems to be one the best ideas.
err the old
Halloween

Evil Dead 2 would also be great.

Bram Stoker's Dracula sounds like it might sort of fit your criteria, too.

The Ring and Poltergeist work every time. That and Hider in the House. You can beat a wall dwelling Busey. A fistful of Busey on Halloween NEVER fails.

How about either Hellraiser 1 or 2?

WILD ZERO. GHOSTBUSTERS. SHAUN OF THE DEAD. UZUMAKI. Just add alcohol.

John Carpenter's "The Thing". The 1988 remake of "The Blob", Maybe? DOTD (1979) seconded (I've actually seent that done at the Jekyll & Hyde bar in NYC, and it worked very well). "Aliens" has those creepy crawly creatures in it a lot; they're very visually arresting in an HR Geiger sort of way. "Arachnaphobia" will hit those w/ the title disorder where they live. "Maniac" has some of the best kills going, but does have long lulls, too. I also second the love for "The Ring". Good luck. Have a great party.

Thanks for all the help, and now I'm severely hung over.

Somewhere in between the blood 'n' guts, throw in Mad Monster Party by Bass Rankin. Hopped up people will thank you for that.

Not really. It has a mysterious power over certain horror nerds (I have a friend who is among them) that I don't understand. It makes very little sense, and isn't even terribly well-made. It kind of sucks, actually.

So Innsmouth, once the headache dies down, let us know what you played.
I don't think it sucks, really. I only saw it for the first time recently, and the real selling point is that it takes place in a movie theater. It is incredibly cheesy, but I didn't really feel like it was a waste of time. It's worth buying for 5 bucks. Which it should be everywhere.

Oh, and the tagline is brilliant.

We ended up watching (in this order) Suspiria, Return of the Living dead, Creepshow (thanks Greg) and this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY8xygx5FBE

"Lorcaa!"

Tonight I'm having my horror marathon with some friends, hopefully I'll get some more of these recommendations in there. Some Fulci will definitely be on tap.

My biggest problem with Popcorn is that it plays out as if there's something supernatural going on, then the ending reveals that it never was anything supernatural. This would be fine, except that it never explains how the supernatural-appearing stuff happened. Your average episode of Scooby Doo knows better than that.

Plague of the Zombies -- possibly the classiest zombie movie ever made?
Twins of Evil -- and my god, those are some good twins.
The Masque of the Red Death -- because Vincent Price is just so eminently watchable in it.

edit: Yes I have a huge boner for Hammer/Amicus style horror.

Can't go wrong with The Lost Boys, and Ed Wood. Not as traditional or scary as some of the suggestions, but good picks nevertheless.
