Good review, Devin. Similar to you, I don't spend much time playing video games, but usually get 1-2 games and stick with those for a while. I picked up GHII for my birthday last year and was immediately hooked. I just got a PS3 a few weeks ago, and will probably spring for the PS3 version of GHIII.

Do you (or anyone) know if the new guitar with the PS3 will work with the old games?
Much like you, I found GH3 to be easier as well. I was getting credit for alot of notes that I KNOW that I missed. Hard mode was a breeze on this, compared to GH2.

What would really be perfect is if the game allowed you to upload songs of your choice and create your own guitar tracks, much like modders are already doing. I know that you would run into copyright and licensing issues, but come ON! As good as the track list is for GH3, I want my own tunes.

Good review, Devin. Weird to hear that Hard mode is easier than previous games, because Medium is considerably tougher.

Although I find it hard to hate on the modern stuff, because most of it turned out to be pretty fun to play. For me, the only slogs are the 80s/90s hard metal stuff--fuck off, Slayer, and don't come back--the Sex Pistols butchery and, weirdly enough, Sunshine of Your Love, which is a good song that turns out to be super-repetitive and annoying to play.

It may not be the best cover of Anarchy, but it's still damn fun to play. My friends totally agreed on Sunshine though, it's almost the Heart Shaped Box of this game.

Let us never speak of GH2 Heart Shaped Box. Also, enjoyed the review Dev. I'm still on the fence on picking this up as Rock Band is paid off at gamestop already.

Nope, they don't.

I have the PS2 version as well and yeah pretty stupid to take out the Star Power moves.

Hearing this, minor quibbles aside, makes me glad Super Smash Brothers is dropping next year, because shit, I got a lot of games to play and this...can't wait!

Anyone else had problems with lag on the ps3 version? I went through the motions of lag calibration but it still never feels right and I find myself sucking more than I should be.

Yeah, I had some issues adjusting to the timing on the PS3. Every time I try to calibrate the lag though, it says there isn't any. I just kind of chalked it up to not having played much GH for the past 4+ months.

when the hell are they going to put Money For Nothing in one of these damn games??
When they put "The Beverly Hillbillies" on there.

I'd rather have Sultans of Swing.

Guitar Hero 3 for XBox 360: $100
Rock Band for XBox 360: $200

Having a wife who doesn't kick your ass for spending $300 on plastic guitars and drums: PRICELESS

I guess my extended family is getting breath mints for Christmas again...

Tieman, if anything. You must gather other LA Chewers for a rousing rendition of Sabotage at your place. I'll bring the mustaches.
All are welcome to rock at the house of Tieman. Just bring beer for tribute to the Rock Gods.

I'll be there with Shiner Bock. Just tell me when and where. Only thing being the cat's got to stay out of the living room. I'm alergic. Other than that, I'm good to go.

But he rocks!
That he may but sadly, rockin' will not prevent my immune system from going to histronics due to his dander.

I like to think that is actually your cat and you managed to whip up that Photoshop in 4 minutes.

Edit: And Ed, can you be so sure about that? There is little that the power of Rock cannot overcome.

Well, Rock Band is only $170. Though I suppose an extra guitar would bump you up to atleast $200.

No I'm pretty sure about that. There've been studies. Sadly, Rock cannot overcome allergies.
I'd need to see some credible sources before I'll believe that!

Sorry, no. My cat is a giant black behemoth. He'd rather sleep on the guitar than play it.

Harvard Med School and the Journal of American Medicine.

And apparently Tieman has the real life version of Garfiled in his house.

Not weird, it's actually a very good change. In GH2 the transition from Medium to Hard was extremely nasty. Now the game feels much smoother going from one difficulty to another.
