Living in Oblivion (1995)

Finally caught this a couple days ago. Very very funny movie. I didn't get much more out of it than that (it's structure, with two dream sequences, is a bit awkward, and the characters are static) but it's definitely one of the funniest movies about making movie I've ever seen.

I always see Dinklage get praise for his agitated dwarf (and rightly so) but to me, James LeGros' "rockstar" actor steals the show. The megalomanical pretentious actor is a pretty well-worn archetype in these films (whether it was back when this came out, I can't say) but the way LeGros passes it all of as if he was the coolest, most laidback guy in the world cracks me up in a huge way.

Tom Jarmusch (yep, that's Jim's brother) is also hilarious as the driver.

"HAVE YOU EVER HAD A DREAM WITH A DWARF IN IT? NOOOOO."

Definitely a look-that-guy-up moment. This is also one of the first films Catherine Keener got noticed for.

Dermot Mulroney's gradual decline is my favorite part, though. The man has not gotten the roles he deserves.

Thanks for motivating me to watch this again. Very funny movie with great performances. And where Ms. Keener stole my heart for the first time.

And he nails him. The scene where he yells something like, "Let's shoot this fucker!" and Dermot Mulroney says, "Fuck you!" and LeGros kicks the air and obliviously yells, "Yeah!" or something to that affect is PURE Pitt.

Man, I gotta remember the dialogue for this movie better.

We watched this in film class one day and we all went 'Yep, I know that guy, this girl, that guy and him.' Most making movie movies are circle-jerks, but this walks the line of being on-point, realistic and damn funny. Plus, the acting is great and there's some great Keener nudity action, which is a score for any film.

Nothing to see here, just a post-revamp bump.

Just caught this on Netflix. I imagine I added it to my queue based on one of the Drafts. I enjoyed it a lot though it definitely felt dated in its 90's cinematic aesthetic. But the content felt universal. I've never worked on a movie set, but I imagine this type of stuff goes on all the time. Keener, Dicklage and Buscemi were all aces. Thanks to whomever recommended it to me.
