Comics 101?

I read Scott Tipton's Comics 101 column when he was over at Movie Poop Shoot and stayed with him when he moved to his own site, but I haven't been able to get the site to load for almost two weeks now. Anyone know anything? I haven't been able to find any info through Google.

Really? Did the address change? Because www.comics101.com just gives me "Looking up..." and then a Server Not Found page.

Doesn't load in Firefox or IE. Scott Tipton must hate me.

I can get it to load in Firefox.

But, I did have trouble with it about a month ago. I kept picking up errors with its SSL.

Giving the whole gray box that stated this place can't guarantee secure transactions and what not. But, that's gone away in the last week or two.

Works for me in Firefox for Mac.

Start a command line (Start\Programs\Accessories\Command Prompt) and type

Code:
tracert www.comics101.com
It'll be obvious if you can reach the site, i.e., it'll hit www.comics101.com in 30 hops or less.

If it fails, then the problem is between your computer and the site and not PEBKAC.

p.s. if you're on a more UNIX-y type system, and if your sysadmin has made it available, try

Code:
tcptraceroute www.comics101.com

I gave this a shot, all I got was "Unable to resolve target system name www.comics101.com".

Try getting to the IP address itself

Code:
tracert 75.126.33.152
If this works, then you have a problem converting "www.comics101.com" into the IP address. In that case, you might look at issues upstream (e.g., DNS problems) or a recent software update/change (e.g., IE upgrade or firewall change).

The results:

I've noticed there's another site -- www.the506.com, it's a site that posts broadcast maps for NFL games -- that gives me the same problem, I wonder if somehow I'm having trouble with web addresses with numbers in them. I'm using Firefox and there was a recent upgrade, but this was happening before that. And I've done nothing to my firewall either.

Well, the obvious thing to try is to use IE and see if you can see the sites from there.

If so ... try going to digitalstronghold.net in Firefox -- that's the host for www.comics101.com.

If you can get to that site in Firefox, then you have a really weird issue resolving numbers in URLs. Maybe you switched default languages by accident?

p.s. just to be paranoid, there might be a block on your range of IP addresses near/at those sites for some reason, e.g., there's a spammer nearby who's pissed off the sysadmins.

Problem solved -- I went into the TCP/IP properties for my internet connection, and somehow the option to choose the DNS server automatically wasn't selected, and I had servers listed there but no DNS servers set in my router. So I just selected the choose automatically option and now everything is peachy.
